Hi-Rez Studios is dropping the optional subscription fee for its massively multiplayer sci-fi shooter, Global Agenda.

Previously, much of the online game was playable as a standard one-off retail purchase, but you had to pay a subscription to access some features, including the large scale Agency-versus-Agency metagame.

From now on, all features will be free to play, and the game will support itself by selling content updates as optional paid expansions. The first of these, Sandstorm, will be offered for free, however.

There's also a 33 per cent discount on the game on Steam until 5th July, as part of the download service's summer sale, which brings it in at £16.74.
