Destiny's Xûr turns his back on PS3, Xbox 360 players

Please Xûr, can we have some more?

This autumn, Destiny's travelling merchant Xûr will turn his back on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

These "legacy" consoles, as developer Bungie now refers to them, will only get a passing level of support from now on.

Xûr will still make the trip to PS3 and Xbox 360 every Friday, but he won't bring with him any guns or armour. Instead, legacy consoles will have to make do with the set stock of an exotic engram.

Multiplayer events such as the monthly Iron Banner and weekly Trials of Osiris will also cease.

There will also be no new live events, such as the past year's Sparrow Racing or Festival of the Lost.

All of these changes tie into the fact that this year's Destiny expansion Rise of Iron is being released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only.

Bungie has estimated only 10 per cent of its player base still uses PS3 or Xbox 360, but if it is using its 10m regular player figure to calculate this, that's still a million players who will be affected.

This autumn was originally supposed to see the launch of a fully-fledged Destiny sequel - which again, likely would have been for PS4 and Xbox One only.

Now even Xûr wants you to upgrade.
