Destiny's next event is... not what players expected

Happy Valentine's!

Er, what? Bungie has returned from its Christmas update hiatus with word of the next Destiny event - and it's a week-long Valentine's celebration.

Crimson Days will be a week-long affair, starting 9th February. The full details have yet to be announced, but Bungie has said it will be of a scale similar to last year's Halloween mask event.

What we do know is that the week will introduce a new Crucible mode, Crimson Doubles, where you and a chosen partner face off against a pair of opponents, two-on-two. The Tower will also be decorated accordingly.

It's not what many players - and I - had expected. Database entries have already been found for a seemingly more interesting event, named The Dawning, which looks like it has something to do with Mercury.

Bungie sounded almost apologetic when rounding off its blog entry from last night - addressing the fact many players were expecting Bungie's triumphant return to communication with word on wider 2016 plans.

"We know that many of you wanted more news beyond our February event. We know that your imaginations for how we might challenge you next are limitless, and we love you for that," community manager Deej wrote. "It's why we do what we do.

"Very soon, we'll have more to share about a second, larger game update that will arrive sometime after February. There are more stories about 2016 that remain to be told, and you'll learn more as soon as I get my own anxious hands on the full and final details. Same goes for the rest of the February update. Until it's ready to be scrutinised under the spotlight, it's all a work in progress.

"I'm eager to show you what the team is working on. They're eager to do that as well. As soon as we get the greenlight, we'll roll it out."

Finally - before Crimson Days - the next Iron Banner will run from next Tuesday, 26th January until Tuesday, 2nd February.
