Chinese console crowdfunding project manages to rip off PS4 and Xbox One

Meet the Ouye.

Meet the Ouye, an upcoming console that looks like a PlayStation 4 with an Xbox One controller.

Sounds great! Could it be the ultimate home games device? Upon further inspection, it seems unlikely.

Delve deeper underneath the hood of the Ouye's copyright-infringing design, and you'll discover there's no shiny 1080p60-producing graphical beast here.

Instead, you'll find the innards of a cheap Android micro-console.

On the upside, like the very real Ouya, the Ouye will sell for a budget price. But you get what you pay for.

You can back the project now on the Chinese crowdfunding site JD.com and bag yourself one for around £45 (including a controller).

The console's manufacturer is hoping to raise around £45,000 from its campaign.

Kotaku reports the company behind Ouye spent "six months on the unique design", which features the parallelepiped box of the PS4 with the top grill of the Xbox One.

The Ouye's controller is a direct copy of Microsoft's pad, albeit with extra buttons in its centre.

There's still plenty of time for the Ouye to be funded, but initial feedback for the project has been negative. Rather than the Ouye's design gaining legions of fans, many Chinese gamers have decried the console's similarities to Microsoft and Sony's machines.

Chinese consoles have lifestyle photos, too.
