How to get your hands on the best kit.

Finding the best Demon's Souls weapon is always a question of taste.

The good news is you'll be able to reliably beat the game with almost anything, provided that it's upgraded enough, and correlates with your character build.

However, there are just some weapons that are a cut above the rest - including the mighty Northern Regalia - that should be right at the heart of your character build.

Luckily, these weapons are attainable, powerful, and have versatile movesets that will help you get through Demon's Souls easily.

Our 11 Best Demon's Souls PS5 Tips for Beginners

How to get the Falchion in Demon's Souls

Falchion Location: Wanderer Class Starting weapon, Shrine of Storms: Loot near Black Skeleton, sold by Graverobber Blige (1500 Souls)
Stat Requirement: 9 Endurance, 10 Dexterity

The Falchion is one of the quicker weapons in Demon's Souls, with an easily combo-able light attack and heavy attacks to complement it.

While it's range might be more limited than a Greatsword or Ultra Greatsword class weapon, you'll not be left without a fighting chance if you prefer a quicker weapon that won't almost completely drain your stamina in a single swing.

demons_souls_best_weapons_falchion_2

You're able to obtain the Falchion in a few ways; Firstly, you're able to start as the Wanderer class and obtain it immediately when you start the game, although Wanderer isn't our recommended pick for the best starting class in Demon's Souls.

You're also able to buy it from Graverobber Blige for 1500 Souls after you rescue him in the Shrine of Storms jail cell. After that, you're able to find him near the Adjudicator Archstone, willing to sell you his wares.

However, there's also an easy way to get a nicely upgraded Crescent Falchion +1 in the early hours of the game if you're feeling confident. After you defeat the Phalanx and see the Monumental in Demon's Souls, you'll be able to warp over to other Archstones.

Head to the Shrine of Storms and head up the stairs, despatching the powerful skeletons along the way. Afterwards, you'll see an archway ahead manned with two Archers. Be sure to deal with them via ranged attacks and instead of proceeding through the archway, turn left. There, past an arrow trap, turn left and head forward.

demons_souls_best_weapon_crescent_falchion

You'll be faced with a dual-katana wielding Black Skeleton.

After you've dealt with or run past them, there will be a Crescent Falchion +1 right there waiting for you.

This is a simple way to get a very powerful weapon early on in the game, and is particularly good, if you're starting out as the Royal Class or are building a Magic-based character. When fully upgraded, the Crescent Falchion has a scaling grade of A to Intelligence, and is a very powerful weapon right out of the gate, too.

How to get the Uchigatana in Demon's Souls

Uchigatana Location: Shrine of Storms; Near Vanguard Demon, dropped by Black Skeleton
Stat Requirement: 18 Endurance, 13 Dexterity

The humble Uchigatana is a fantastic weapon that's quick, powerful and incredibly easy to use.

Again, this weapon should be intended for lightly built characters that are looking to get a few quick hits in before becoming more defensive. The Uchigatana is relatively simple to obtain, and can be found in the Shrine of Storms as treasure.

This is a very easy find. As you proceed past the arch, faced against the Vanguard demon, head left before entering the building, and the Uchigatana will be easily found in a corner.

The Uchigatana is also a rare drop from the Black Skeletons found in the Shrine of Storms. We recommend the 'Sharp' upgrade path for the Uchigatana, which, when fully upgraded, has a scaling grade of A to Dexterity. Be warned however, the Uchigatana is fairly fragile when compared to other weapons, so be sure to repair it regularly at Blacksmith Ed or Boldwin.

How to get the Kilij in Demon's Souls

Kilij Location: Shrine of Storms: Near Vanguard Demon, dropped by Gold Skeleton
Stat Requirement: 14 Endurance, 10 Dexterity

The Kilij is yet another curved weapon that's well-suited to faster character builds, who are focussed on levelling Dexterity. It has a slightly different move set to the Falchion, but is better suited to a different type of build.

You are able to find the Kilij again in the Shrine of Storms, right behind and to the immediate right of the Vanguard. It's incredibly hard to miss.

You're also able to grab the Kilij as a rare drop from Golden Skeletons.

In terms of the upgrade path for Kilij, it's one of the few weapons we would recommend upgrading to 'Tearing' with Suckerstone, as it scales well with Dexterity, and also provides a buildup of bleed damage that maxes out at 300 when fully upgraded.

It also has a scaling grade of S to Dexterity when fully upgraded.

How to get the Claymore in Demon's Souls

Claymore Location: Boletarian Palace, dropped by Blue-Eyed Knight and purchasable for 6000 Souls from Dregling Merchant
Stat Requirement: 20 Endurance

demons_souls_best_weapon_claymore

The Claymore is one of the best Greatswords in the game, with a wide sweeping light attack, and a frontal slash heavy, it's one of the most powerful, and most versatile weapons in the game, that will make dealing with groups of enemies a lot easier than using a weapon with a smaller range, making it ideal for your first run through the game.

The Claymore is also easily attainable early on in the game in the Boletarian Palace, and is dropped by the Blue Eyed Knight in the Hallway and Courtyard after you find Ostrava.

It might take a little bit of grinding to get, but it's well worth the benefits, especially if you are beginning to use a heavier character, or are more suited to a slower style of play than the other weapons mentioned above in the game.

After defeating the Phalanx, you're able to buy the Claymore for 6000 Souls. This merchant moves around as you progress through the game, but immediately after defeating the Phalanx he will be accessible from the Boletarian Palace behind some breakable wood, near to where you initially find Ostrava of Boletaria.

demons_souls_4_weapons

The Claymore scales well with a multitude of character builds, and is particularly strong when you scale it with 'Quality' upgrades, a combo of Strength and Dexterity with a scaling grade of C to both stats, or a 'Moonlight' upgrade, which will allow it to scale with a grade of C to Intelligence and E to Strength and Dexterity.

In addition to this, if you want to run a 'Faith'-based build, the Claymore has a scaling grade of A to Faith, in addition to E for Strength and Dexterity when running a 'Blessed' build. While these scaling grades might not seem like a huge amount, it splits the types of damage the Claymore is able to do, and will result in an overall higher Damage Scaling than other stats with a raw S rank or otherwise.

How to get the Northern Regalia in Demon's Souls

Northern Regalia Location: Forged from Blacksmith Ed from Soulbrandt, Demonbrandt and False King's Demon's Soul
Stat Requirement: 20 Endurance, 14 Dexterity, 12 Magic and 12 Faith.

The Northern Regalia is without a doubt, the most powerful weapon in Demon's Souls.

demons_souls_best_weapon_northern_regalia

First of all, you need to obtain two swords; Demonbrandt and Soulbrandt. After obtaining both Swords, forge them together alongside the False King's Demon's Soul to obtain the Northern Regalia.

The weapon itself is a strange one. It is a greatsword that has a very similar moveset to the Claymore. However, the amount of damage it does scales with your Character Tendency. If you have a Pure White or Pure Black Character Tendency, then the Northern Regalia will have an attack value of 540, which is extremely hard to beat, even with other, fully upgraded enchanted weapons. The Northern Regalia cannot however be upgraded or enchanted, but it is extremely powerful, and the easy-to-manipulate Character Tendency bonus is just the cherry on top. So, what's the catch?

The Northern Regalia is extremely difficult to obtain without the prior knowledge of how to do so, and it's most likely that many players will only be able to forge the Northern Regalia in New Game+.

So, we've put a guide together on how to exactly forge the Northern Regalia, the most powerful weapon in Demon's Souls, without having to enter into New Game+. Be warned, there are spoilers abound.

How to get Demonbrandt and save Ostrava in Demon's Souls

To get Demonbrandt, you must either follow Ostrava of Boletaria's quest line or kill him when you meet him to obtain the Mausoleum Key. If you want to follow Ostrava's questline, you will need to save him from the Dreglings in Boletarian Palace.

Free him from being imprisoned afterwards at the Phalanx Archstone just to the left as you enter, talk to him, then as you explore the level, ensure you have killed all of the enemies in the area and make your way back to him from the other side.

After this, talk to him in the Nexus. Ensure that you have saved him from the Phalanx Archstone before proceeding.

Then finally, at the Penetrator Archstone level, he will be found asking for help near one of the Fat Officials.

Asking you to open the gate before him as he's being attacked by two Red Eyed Knights and a soldier.

Defeat them and then talk to Ostrava, who is hiding nearby. After passing the Red Dragon, you'll find Ostrava kneeling, after he will give you the Mausoleum Key, and ask you to get Demonbrandt and Soulbrandt before killing himself. Head up the stairs to be faced with a Black Phantom Ostrava.

demons_souls_best_weapon_demonbrandt_2

If you want to kill him, or if you're facing Black Phantom Ostrava, we recommend repeatedly parrying him until he dies, it's a simple fight, and so long as you're using a shield that has the ability to parry, it shouldn't be too difficult. Black Phantom Ostrava also drops the Rune Sword and Shield.

How to get the Demonbrandt in Demon's Souls

Once you have the Mausoleum key, go to the Boletarian Palace, head to where you find the Red Eyed Knight and kill him, afterwards, you'll be able to use the Mausoleum Key and face King Doran, who will challenge you to a duel to test your mettle.

demons_souls_best_weapon_demonbrandt

Doran is parryable, but you can also cast Poison Cloud, then head out of the Mausoleum, rinse and repeat this safe strategy to either kill Old King Doran or just get his health down.

After getting his health down by 25%, he'll ask you to take Demonbrandt.

From there, he will disengage. If you want to kill him, continue to attack him further. Backstabs, Parries and Poison Cloud are the recommended strategy here. Be warned, this is the most challenging fight in the game.

If you kill him, he will also drop the Ancient King's set of armour, which is one of the best armour sets in the game.

How to get the Soulbrandt in Demon's Souls

Soulbrandt is obtained after killing King Allant, not to be confused with Old King Allant, another one of the final bosses in Demon's Souls.

It will be laying near him after killing him. If you want to forge the Northern Regalia without entering into New Game+, ensure you have the 'Evacuate' skill before facing King Allant.

After defeating him, there will be a short scene with the Maiden in Black. You will once again have control of your character. Here, use 'Evacuate' to return to the Nexus and head to Stonefang Tunnel.

How to get the Northern Regalia in Demon's Souls

To forge the Northern Regalia, you first have to get access to Blacksmith Ed.

He can be found in Stonefang Tunnel. First of all, you must have defeated the Armor Spider and Flamelurker. Then, exhaust his dialogue options, then give him the Red Hot Demon's Soul that drops from the Flamelurker.

Then, he will be able to forge the Northern Regalia by consuming the False King's Demon's Soul.

demons_souls_best_weapon_northern_regalia_3

Blacksmith Ed will also be able to create other 'boss' weapons and use rare upgrade materials to upgrade your weapons for you easily.

If you've forged the Northern Regalia, congratulations. It's one hell of a challenge.
