Broken Age Act 2 release set for early 2015

Will last 8-12 hours, Double Fine reports.

Broken Age Act 2 will arrive in early 2015, developer Double Fine has said.

The Kickstarter-funded adventure game's concluding half is now in a playable alpha state, with just the game's finale yet to be completed.

Double Fine testers who have played through the rest of the episode report that it should last between eight and 12 hours.

"Now that we have all the writing and design finalised and VO recorded, the remainder of development is much easier to estimate," Double Fine's Greg Rice wrote in a new blog post.

"The production team is currently working to nail down a new schedule for finaling the game that we can use as a goal for the team and also share with you all."

Broken Age - originally titled Double Fine Adventure - earned itself $3.4 million via the company's record-breaking Kickstarter campaign.

The project was originally due to launch as a single release, but was split down the middle last year so sales of Act 1 could help complete Act 2.

News of the game's split launch - and that Double Fine needed more money to finish the project - raised eyebrows, with many pointing to the fact that the Kickstarter project had already wildly exceeded its original $400,000 goal.

But Double Fine countered that by arguing that the campaign's success had allowed the developer to drastically increase its vision for the title.

Broken Age Act 1 launched back in January for PC and then in June for iPad.

"Pleasant but undemanding, gorgeous but lacking in depth - fans will be forgiven for expecting something a little more chewy, a little more experimental, from a developer who made his name by turning adventure games upside down," Dan Whitehead wrote of the game's opening half.

"Here's hoping Act 2 builds some gameplay muscle to go with the supermodel looks."
