Activision turning The Walking Dead into an FPS

Ghostbusters' dev at the helm.

A new Walking Dead game has been announced by Activision that will re-envision Robert Kirkman's zombie series as a first-person action game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The game is being developed by Terminal Reality, the studio behind the 2009 Ghostbusters game, IGN has reported.

Whereas Telltale's Walking Dead series is canon to the comics, Activision's reboot is based on AMC's television series.

This alternate take on the franchise casts players as Daryl Dixon and his outlandishly racist brother Merle as they go on a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta."

Gameplay will be a mix of action and stealth as players attempt to avoid detection. Resource management looks to play a big part in it, and you'll encounter NPCs who can either help or hinder you based on your choices.

Activision's The Walking Dead is slated for release sometime next year.
