YouTube Gaming launches today

UPDATE: It's now live!

UPDATE 26/08/2015 6pm: YouTube Gaming is now live. Do check it out.

ORIGINAL STORY 26/08/2015 12.47am: YouTube Gaming, Google's streaming service for game-related videos, is launching later today, 26th August.

Google tried to buy Twitch last year, but lost to Amazon. YouTube Gaming is its retaliation.

As reported by Ars Technica, both YouTube Gaming's website and companion app will be available shortly.

This new service will operate similar to Twitch wherein users can watch thousands of streaming gameplay videos and easily search by game title, popular content or streamer.

One feature YouTube Gaming will be adding that Twitch doesn't have is a "DVR Mode" buffer that automatically captures the last four hours of a livestream, allowing users to rewind.

Companion Apps for both iOS and Android will allow users to see who's streaming or start a stream themselves. These will launch in the UK and US later today along with the web service.

For more on YouTube Gaming, Our Chris Bratt took a look at its nifty features last month where he outlined them in the video below.
