World's largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament set for August

$250,000 up for grabs at 15,000-seater stadium in Germany.

The Counter-Strike eSports scene has suffered a number of high-profile scandals in recent months, but it's safe to say it's booming.

Reinforcing the resurgence of Valve's competitive first-person shooter as a huge eSport, the world's largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament is set to be held in Cologne, Germany this year.

ESL One Cologne will take place in the 15,000-seater LANXESS arena stadium, home to ice hockey team Kölner Haie, on 22nd and 23rd August. An impressive $250,000 is up for grabs, fronted up by ESL itself, as well as the ESL One trophy, previously won by Virtus Pro in ESL One Katowice 2014, and Ninjas in Pyjamas in ESL One Cologne 2014.

ESL has yet to announce which 16 teams will take part in the tournament. Tickets go on sale on 23rd February, if you fancy making your way over to Germany to see the action up close and personal.
