Warner says a new Batman Arkham game will be out this year

Could this be the Silver Age Asylum prequel Rocksteady has been working on?

Turns out Warner did have something to say about games in its financial splurge last week. It was news that a new game in the Batman Arkham franchise - the excellent series made by Rocksteady - will be released this year.

Warner's financial year synchronises with the calendar year.

"And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise," announced CFO John K. Martin during Warner's financial call (spotted by VG247).

Arkham City was released in 2011, Arkham Asylum in 2009.

Rocksteady is rumoured to be working on a prequel to Arkham Asylum set in the Silver Age of comics when the Justice League is formed and Batman first meets Joker. It could still be classed as a game in the Batman Arkham franchise by the higher-ups at Warner.

But when that rumour was doing the rounds, a launch before 2014 was out of the question.

Whatever this new Batman game turns out to be, if it appears this autumn then there's a strong chance it will be a cross-generational release for the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles, assuming they're released this Christmas.
