Steam gambling sites such as CS:GO Lotto banned on Twitch
On the money.
Yesterday, Valve clarified its rules on sites that use Steam to run gambling businesses.
Gambling businesses, that is, such as CS:GO Lotto - the site owned and promoted by YouTube stars who did not properly disclose how they were profiting from it.
Now, streaming giant Twitch has issued a statement saying gambling sites such as CS:GO Lotto are no longer welcome on its site.
Twitch does not allow streamers to broadcast content that breaks any service agreements. Following Valve's statement, this now includes gambling sites that tap into Steam's API.
"Valve specifically notes that using 'the OpenID API and making the same web calls as Steam users to run a gambling business is not allowed by our API nor our user agreements'.
"As a reminder, per Twitch's Terms of Service, broadcasters are not permitted to stream content that breaks the terms of service or user agreements of third-parties. As such, content in which the broadcaster uses or promotes services that violate Valve's stated restrictions is prohibited on Twitch."
Broadcasting CS:GO Lotto will now break Twitch's rules of conduct, which also ban things like playing pirated games and playing on unauthorised private servers.
