Super Mario, Mario Kart 3DS re-named

Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7.

Nintendo has re-named this year's twin 3DS Mario titles and given both rough release dates.

Raccoon suited Super Mario 3DS is now Super Mario 3D Land. It's out in November.

Underwater propeller-fuelled Mario Kart 3DS is now simply Mario Kart 7. It arrives in December.

The games' fresh monikers are the final European names, Nintendo has confirmed to Eurogamer.

Super Mario 3D Land is a hybrid of recent 3D Mario games, with classic 2D Mario features mixed in. Its name is reminiscent of the original Mario Land side-scrolling platformers on the Game Boy.

Mario Kart 7, the first numbered game in the series, expands the racing franchise with underwater sections. There's also air gliding using Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-style wings. It's the ninth in the series, if you count the two Mario Kart arcade titles.

The two new titles were spotted in Nintendo's shock press release this morning, where the company signalled a huge 3DS price drop. The 3DS will get a 30 per cent price reduction in Europe, although early 3DS adopters will be compensated.

I'm Mario Kart 7, and this name was my idea.
