SEGA coy on Dreamcast.com ownership

So who is asking for your serial numbers?

SEGA has offered no explanation of its relationship with website dreamcast.com, which asked you for your Dreamcast serial numbers over the weekend.

Arms were thrown in the air like missiles after GameRush declared the domain had not been owned by the publisher for several years.

But Internet detective Videogaming247 pointed out that the Whois registry lists SEGA Corporation or, more specifically, Shoji Takamitsu as the owner.

Which is a trifle confusing. However, we would have expected a more concrete answer from the publisher had it owned the site and been planning something Dreamcast-related.

Dreamcast.com asks you for your console serial number and email address before supplying you with your @user.dreamcast.com account. We suggest holding fire for now.
