Rage 2, Injustice 2, and F1 2020 headline PlayStation Now's latest additions
Plus Vermintide 2, My Time at Portia and more.
As October prepares to conclude in a flurry of socially distanced shrieks and spooks, Sony returns with another batch of additions to its PlayStation Now subscription service, this time including the likes of Rage 2, Injustice 2, and F1 2020.
Rage 2, of course, is Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios' open-world take on id Software's 2010 post-apocalyptic FPS. Avalanche's neon-flecked sequel comes packed with "plenty of balls-to-the-wall action and beautifully distressed setpieces", as Eurogamer contributor Vikki Blake put it in her review, even if its blandly implemented open-world lets the side down a little.
"Superficially, it clutters the map and makes it feel like you've plenty to do," said Vikki, "but you'll soon learn that they're chiefly repetitive tasks and as satisfying as Rage 2's combat is, it's surprising how quickly it'll grow stale - particularly as the vehicular combat isn't quite as satisfying as the devastation of your shotgun."
Injustice 2, however, is a winner through and through, marrying Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm's considerable fighting game expertise to an impressive roster of DC Universe superheroes and villains - from Batman and Superman to rather more obscure additions - for an even more ambitious, and substantial, sequel.
"Injustice 2 is a huge amount of fun," said Wesley Yin-Poole in his Recommended review back in 2017, "There's tonnes of stuff to do, it looks the part and the new fighting mechanics serve a purpose while deftly avoiding adding complexity... In short, [it's] the complete fighting game package, and it's one I hope other developers in the genre take notice of."
As for F1 2020, it's another Eurogamer Recommended title, featuring, as Eurogamer's Martin Robinson put it, "some of the best single-player racing action around".
"Codemasters' F1 series has gone from strength to strength, and F1 2020 is a consolidation of all that," concluded Martin earlier this year, "It's open-armed, nerdishly specced out - with its dynamic weather and evolving track, this still has a feature list that should well be the envy of other console racers like Forza and Gran Turismo - and above all it's an awful lot of fun."
That's not quite it for PlayStation Now, however! Colourful farming and village life sim My Time at Portia is, alongside the above, available from today, and two more additions - medieval action-RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance and superb co-operative fantasy bludgeoner Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - arrive on Tuesday, 3rd November.
