PS3 to get 3D Blu-ray update soon

As soon as next month, in fact.

Sony has announced a release date for the firmware update which will enable PS3 to play 3D Blu-rays.

The announcement came during a conference at big old technology fair IFA, as attended by Engadget. According to Sony, the update will be released this October.

So what will you be able to watch in 3D? Well, Sony also unveiled 3D bundles of Alice in Wonderland (terrible) and Michael Jackson's This Is It (worth it for the bit where he tells someone off "with love").

An exact release date has yet to be announced. Still, good to know there's just a few weeks before we can peel those red and green sweet wrappers off our specs. And you can never have too many firmware updates.
