Whiptail joins the Gangland

Insert gangster movie quote here.

Postal 2 publisher Whiptail Interactive has announced the next title to come out of its sick little camp. Gangland, developed by the Danish team MediaMobsters, apparently blends real-time strategy, role-play and simulation gaming with a "totally new" type of in-game combat. The player, as one of four Sicilian brothers, works his way up through the family, setting up protections rackets, threatening locals, prostituting lovely lady folk, and 'silencing' people by whatever means necessary.

The inhabitants of the game's setting, Paradise City, will react to your antics in the appropriate way, and it's possible to interact with each one of the 500-or-so non-playable characters populating the city. Interestingly, the game features what's dubbed an "Event Engine", which generates non-linear plot lines on the fly, so it seems no two games will ever be completely alike.

The aforementioned combat is confusingly described as a combination of first-person shooting and real-time strategy tactics, with the player having to make good tactical use of their environment. The PC version of Gangland, due for release in November, also features a multiplayer mode which supports up to eight players who can each control around 50 characters at a time. It certainly sounds to us like Whiptail could redeem itself with this one.
