A group of veteran ex-Lucasarts employees have founded a new development studio in California called Telltale Games, with the stated aim of "reenergising" the adventure game genre.

The team, headed up by Dan Connors, who is CEO of the new company, is mostly made up of people who were working on Lucasarts' Sam & Max: Freelance Police title before it was cancelled last year.

The cancellation of the game was seen as a further death knell for the adventure game genre, and was met with anger from the vocal fanbase of the genre - prompting the team to leave Lucasarts behind and strike out on their own.

Telltale hopes to revitalise the adventure game genre by using well-known licenses which will drive interest in the wider market, although no details of the team's first product have yet been revealed other than that it is a "well-loved license."
