Doom movie: details and pics
A release date (for the US anyway), film stills and news of the plot. Oh, and it's got Dexter Fletcher in it.
Universal Pictures has revealed more details of the forthcoming Doom movie, finally confirming a US release date of October 21. They've also released some pics, which you can see here.
The film set in the year 2145 - just like the recent game - and begins with a group of marines receiving a distress call from a mysterious planet. On investigating, they discover that an unknown species is wreaking havoc on the local population, and set about sorting it all out. And dying quite a lot.
The film stars Sigourney Weaver, sorry, The Rock as Sarge, alongside Karl Urban of Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Riddick fame. And, most excitingly, Dexter Fletcher off of Press Gang and that series of Gamesmaster that was set on an oilrig or a prison or something and was extra rubbish.
Trivia fans might also like to know that three of the characters - Doctor Carmack and Doctors Jenna and Steve Willits - are named after id Software designers John and Tim.
The movie is being directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, whose previous credits include Cradle 2 the Grave, Exit Wounds and Romeo Must Die, and special effects bods who worked on The Mask, The Nutty Professor and Terminator 3 are doing the, er, special effects.
Shooting began in Prague last October and the film is now in post-production. There's no word on a European release date as yet, but we reckon it'll be out here by Christmas.
