Sony Europe to publish God of War this year

Santa Monica Studios' ambitious Ancient Greek action-adventure dated.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it will publish God of War, from the Santa Monica Studios subsidiary of its American arm, in the second quarter of 2005 exclusively on PS2.

Originally unveiled this time last year, God of War is a single-player action-adventure game founded in Ancient Greek mythology that pits the player in the role of warrior Kratos as he fights to overcome a mixture of brutal combat scenarios and puzzles.

Unless it's undergone a major change since we last saw it, the game begins as a soldier leaps to his death and the game then charts the preceding events in playable flashbacks. As it turns out, our hero's goal has been to hunt down and kill Aries, the eponymous God of War.

Having found ourselves quite interested in it at the time, we took the liberty of previewing God of War, so you can read more about the combat system amongst other things over there, but with the game due out in Q2 we'd fully expect to get our hands on actual code in the relatively near future. When we do, we'll tell you if it's any good.
