New PAL Releases Roundup - 01/05/09

Rhythm Paradise, Wolverine, Banjo, etc.

If you've been casting about for something new to plug into your DS recently, today is the day. Rhythm Paradise - the European version of Rhythm Tengoku Gold - is out. It's a game about maintaining rhythm in absurd situations. It's the sort of "old Nintendo" that brought us WarioWare, and it must be encouraged.

Elsewhere, Activision has another stab at film adaptation with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although as you may have read elsewhere on the site, it's more like 50,000 stabs, and they don't get any more exciting after the first few dozen, even though developer Raven has a few good ideas along the way.

Really then this week is mostly interesting on account of the downloads. Aksys' Bit.Trip Beat for WiiWare sounds is another rhythmic curiosity (although bad luck being scheduled against Paradise), Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram is a sterling Xbox Live Arcade adaptation of another forgotten SEGA gem, and even Banjo-Tooie is an improvement.

So it's a bit quiet at the moment, although there's Fallout 3's Broken Steel update next week. Look out for a review of that on Tuesday.

This week:

  • A Little Bit of... Dr. Mario (DSiWare)
  • A Little Big of... Magic Made Fun: Funny Face (DSiWare)
