Midway launches new titles

Including next-gen WWII shooter.

Midway has been showing off in Las Vegas, announcing a raft of new titles including a pair of next-generation shooters.

BlackSite: Area 51 is a sequel to current-gen shooter Area 51, and will be released as soon as this summer on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the publisher said.

Meanwhile, work is also underway on Midway's attempt to grab a piece of the lucrative World War II "genre". Hour of Victory will be released on Xbox 360, is based on Unreal Engine 3 technology and lets you approach situations stealthily, as a sniper, or in the boots of a British commando. Producer Mark Caldwell reportedly described the difference between it and its competition as "an Indiana Jones approach, versus a Saving Private Ryan approach".

Other games in Midway's future plans include a pair of puzzly handheld titles (23-title trivia and puzzle game compilation Touchmaster DS, and PSP brain training entry Hot Brain), while wrestling title TNA iMPACT! is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from the publisher's LA studio in 2008.

Work also continues on The Wheelman, starring Vin Diesel, although the film with which it shares its star has yet to be filmed. It's due out this year, the publisher said in Vegas.
