Mario Kart 8 getting Zelda and Animal Crossing DLC

UPDATE: Pre-purchase both for £11, get Yoshi and Shy Guy bonuses.

UPDATE 27/8/14 8.00am Nintendo has officially confirmed the two Mario Kart DLC packs - now named The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8.

Both £7 add-ons are now available to pre-purchase (and you can save money by getting both together in a bundle for £11). Buying them early unlocks eight different coloured Yoshis and eight different coloured Shy Guys for use right now.

ORIGINAL STORY 26/8/14 11.30pm Mario Kart 8 will get new DLC starting in November, but unlike the oddball Mercedes Benz add-on these actually fit into the Nintendo universe.

Hyrule to hell.

As spotted on Nintendo's UK website - although later pulled - the two Nintendo-themed packs will each add two new cups (of four races each), four new carts and three new characters. So when all is said and done, it will increase the stage count by 50 per cent.

Both add-ons will cost £7 each.

The first chunk of DLC - The Legend of Zelda X AoC Pack, as it's currently codenamed - will arrive this November and will add Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach and Link to the mix, along with at least one new Zelda-themed track and some returning favourites as well. We know that Wario's Gold Mine stage from Mario Kart Wii will be included, along with a cart from F-Zero.

The second add-on, the Animal Crossing X AoC Pack, won't be out until May and will add the Animal Crossing Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser to the roster. Like the Zelda add-on, this will have at least one new stage based around Animal Crossing and will host a mix of remade and brand new tracks.
