It looks like Kratos is joining Fortnite's latest season

UPDATE: Sony's God of War now available on all platforms.

UPDATE 4/12/20: Oh boy. Kratos is now available in Fortnite on all platforms as part of today's in-game item shop.

To be clear, Kratos is available on all Fortnite platforms - including Xbox One and Series X/S - though anyone playing on PlayStation 5 gets a second golden armour style.

As well as the god himself (with decapitated Mimir back bling) you can also get a Guardian Shield glider and Leviathan Axe pickaxe, which comes with a frosty built-in emote.

Kratos is the first of a new character rarity type in Fortnite - Video Game Legends - which points to more popular familiar faces popping up in the future. (Indeed, images which appear to show a certain Xbox chief coming next have already leaked. No, it's not Phil Spencer.)

ORIGINAL STORY 2/12/20: Fortnite's latest season has been live for less than a day, but already there's confirmation that more than just Star Wars' Mandalorian and Baby Yoda will be showing up to do a turn in Epic's cross-media marketing juggernaut (and battle royale game), starting with God of War's Kratos.

The teases started over on the official PlayStation Twitter feed, which posted a short clip in which Fortnite's in-game overseer Agent Jonesy discusses doing some research on the next character he's bringing into the game - a mystery man who's "literally vanquished multiple gods with his bare hands in a fit of uncontrollable rage".

If that rather heavy handed clue wasn't enough to tip you off to the character's identity, it wasn't long before Fortnite poster Hypex shared a number of images, one displaying the new Kratos skin in all its majestically bearded glory, and another of the skin being used in-game.

There's not much more to report until either Sony or Epic makes Kratos' arrival (presumably as a PlayStation-exclusive skin) officially official, but it certainly opens the door for more bounty-hunter-themed franchise cameos as Fortnite's Chapter 2, Season 5 progresses.

The Witcher's Geralt would be the obvious platform agnostic choice, and then, of course, there's Metroid's Samus Aran for Switch. As for Microsoft and the Xbox community, I think we can all agree the only logical crossover candidate would be Blinx the Cat.

Fortnite's Chapter 2, Season 5 ditches last season's Marvel shenanigans for what appears to be a welcome return to the all-out dimension-collapsing craziness that defined Chapter 1's wonderfully memorable latter stages. It sees Agent Jones and the "greatest hunters from across Realities" teaming up to prevent the island's denizen from escaping their perpetually looping fates. Oh, and there's a cowboy made of flapjacks too.
