Here's gameplay of Project Nova, the Eve Online first-person shooter

Dust to dust.

Remember Project Nova? It's the new first-person shooter set within the Eve Online universe from CCP Games and UK developer Sumo Digital. Things had been quiet on the Project Nova front, but CCP has just lifted the lid on the game, releasing a flashy teaser trailer, letting outlets run gameplay footage and signalling a closed playtest for later this year.

Here's the teaser trailer:

"Project Nova is the upcoming dark and thrilling first-person co-op shooter set in the dystopian sci-fi universe of EVE Online," reads the official blurb.

"Project Nova features tactical co-op PvE and explosive PvP modes, with a strong emphasis on mastery and strategy. Project Nova's gameplay will be co-evolved with the community - be there from the start to shape the game's journey."

And here's 20 minutes of gameplay, courtesy of IGN:

As you can see, Project Nova looks like standard class-based sci-fi FPS fare, with capture points, robot enemies to shoot and future tech weapons to fire. Of note: this fight takes place on the hull of a spaceship, so when you kill enemies they float off into space. There are damage numbers and yellow crit numbers that flash above the heads of enemies.

If you like what you see, you can put your name down for the invite-only alpha, due out in November, over at CCP's website.

Project Nova is actually CCP's second stab at making an Eve Online FPS, after Dust 514 came and went on PlayStation 3. The company will be hoping for a better success this time around.

Meanwhile, CCP also pulled back the curtain on Eve: Echoes, an Eve Online mobile MMO set in an alternate New Eden. CCP said it's got combat, trading and exploration, and is developed by Chinese company NetEase Games. Expect it on iOS and Android at some point in 2019. The trailer is below.
