Gearbox's WW2 shooter Brothers in Arms is getting a TV adaptation

Will be based on Road to Hill 30.

Gearbox's much-loved World War 2 shooter series Brothers in Arms has joined the ever-growing line-up of video games to get the TV adaptation treatment.

As revealed by the Hollywood Reporter, the new adaptation will be based on Gearbox's 2005 Brothers in Arms effort, Road to Hill 30, which told the story of a group of paratroopers mis-dropped and separated behind enemy lines during the D-Day invasion of Normandy - inspired by the real-life experiences of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment during Mission Albany.

The TV show will reportedly deviate from Road to Hill 30's story somewhat, charting the journey of eight men as they attempt to rescue their colonel from enemy forces, and will expand considerably on the game by incorporating elements of the real-life Exercise Tiger, a botched Allied D-Day rehearsal that was hushed up following the deaths of 800 US servicemen.

Scott Rosenbaum (whose credits include Queen of the South, V, and Gang Related) will serve as showrunner, with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford getting an executive producer title.

"What I liked and hadn't seen before," Rosenbaum told the Hollywood Reporter of the new show, "is we explore German soldiers and civilians and those in high command on both sides. We meet all these real people and see the effect and the big puzzle."

It's probably a little too soon to be slipping into your anticipation pants, however, as full production on the Brothers in Arms TV adaptation is still some way off; directors are still being sought for the project, as is a broadcast partner.

Gearbox's Brothers in Arms TV adaptation is the second Hollywood production to be announced by the studio this year. Back in February, it revealed its efforts to adapt Borderlands into a movie had finally borne fruit, and that Hostel director Eli Roth would be directing the film, working from a script by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin.
