Game will accept Resi Evil 3D trade-ins

UPDATE: But HMV will not.

UPDATE: HMV will not accept Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D trade-ins, VG247 reports.

HMV told VG247 that it took the decision to "avoid any potential customer disappointment for those purchasing a pre-owned version".

ORIGINAL STORY: Game and gamestation will accept Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D trade-ins despite it preventing gamers from deleting save data, the retailer has confirmed to Eurogamer.

Controversial Nintendo 3DS game Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will be sold new and pre-owned as normal by Game and Gamestation when it launches on Friday.

It emerged this week that it is impossible to reset game save data in The Mercenaries 3D.

Gamers reacted angrily to the news, and even "Amazon Bombed" its user reviews.

US store GameStop yesterday confirmed it will accept trade-ins of the game after initially deciding not to sell it pre-owned.

"GameStop did ask the US store base to stop accepting trades on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D as we evaluated the save system for the game," the company said in a statement to IGN.

"Upon further review of the process with our publisher partner, Capcom, GameStop will resume taking trades on the game effective Wednesday, 29th June."

Yesterday Electronics Boutique Australia was rumoured to be about to pull the game from sale.

Mercenaries 3D's restriction is seen by many as an attempt to combat second hand sales of the game.

But Capcom told Eurogamer this week Mercenaries 3D will retain its second-hand value.

"The game's value at second-hand in the UK is not affected by whether or not the game can have its data reset," Capcom said.

"Customers in the UK will not experience a reduced second-hand value should they wish to trade in their purchase."
