Destiny 2 Crota's End Oversoul Throne Bridge guide

How to cross the chasm, and begin you assault on Crota's Oversoul Throne.

A massive chasm separates the entrance of Crota’s Throne world from his seat of power, the Oversoul Throne in Destiny 2.

You and your fireteam must prove your worthiness by constructing and crossing a bridge, and laying waste to Crota’s followers on the other side.

Doing so will allow you to move onto the next stage of this Destiny 2 raid - the Ir Yur boss battle.

Crota’s End Oversoul Throne Bridge in Destiny 2 explained

The goal of this encounter is to construct a bridge, cross the chasm, and eliminate blue Hive Knights called Gatekeepers. On each side of the chasm there is a bridge construction plate and a pair of Annihilator Totems. The Chalice rests on a platform near the center of the arena's near side.

The bridge is constructed by standing on the plate and empowering it with the Enlightened buff from the Chalice mechanic. A Guardian must be standing under both Annihilator Totems on the same side as the activated plate, otherwise they will quickly turn red and activate a party wipe.

Once the bridge is built it can only be crossed by Guardians holding the Chalice or wielding a Hive Sword. The Hive Swords are dropped by special Knights called Swordbearers, and you must be Enlightened to pick one up.

When a Guardian with a Sword crosses the bridge their job is to find and kill the Gatekeeper. These are blue Knights that can only be damaged by the Hive Sword, and then stow the sword at one of the five sword preservation docks.

Continue sending people with Hive Swords across the bridge, killing the Gatekeepers, and docking the swords. Once three Guardians are across they will hold the plate and Annihilator Totems on that side, while the remaining fireteam members work on becoming Enlightened, taking the Swords, and making their own crossing. Once there are only two Guardians left to cross, have one grab a sword. The other will bring the Chalice of Light and store in the Chalice Dock on the far side.

Once five swords have been docked, a mass of hive will attack on the far side of the chasm. Keep clearing out enemies until a large group of Gatekeepers spawn. The Swords that have been preserved can now be picked up. Pass the Chalice around to get people Enlightened, grab swords, and start smashing. Once all Gatekeepers are dead the way will be clear to the next phase of the raid.

Crota’s End Oversoul Throne Bridge strategy in Destiny 2

There are multiple ways to approach this encounter. Sending one person at a time as they get Enlightened is effective, but our recommended strategy is generally easier.

Divide into three groups of two Guardians each. There will be a pair at each totem on the near side, and a pair in charge of the center plate. The center plate team will start with the Chalice, but until the Bridge is built they will need help from one more person to keep the Chalice rotation going. That person is the Rover.

One person from the plate team will grab the Chalice. Once it is full the other plate person will take it, leaving the first person Enlightened. They power up the plate, while the Rover comes over to take the Chalice when the second plate holder is ready. The Rover will pass the Chalice to the first person when their energy is full, and this cycle will repeat until the Bridge is constructed.

The rotation looks like this:

  • Plate person 1 takes the Chalice.
  • Plate person 2 takes it when it is fully charged.
  • Rover takes it next.
  • Plate person 1 takes it to restart the rotation.

Once the bridge is built the goal now is to get almost everyone on the fireteam Enlightened before sending anyone over. You can kill or avoid the Swordbearer for now, just focus on staying alive, holding the Totems and plate, and passing the Chalice around until five people are empowered, and the sixth is holding the Chalice.

It does not matter in which order the Chalice is passed here. The rotation will follow this pattern:

  • Guardian 1 has the Chalice.
  • Guardian 2 takes it.
  • Guardian 3 takes it.
  • Guardian 4 takes it.
  • Guardian 5 takes it.
  • Guardian 6 takes it, crosses the bridge, and docks it.

Once five Guardians have the Enlightened buff and the Chalice is safely docked you will be set up for the next phase. Now every time you kill a Swordbearer someone will be able to immediately take the sword, cross the bridge, kill the Gatekeeper, and dock the sword. Take care to always have one person holding the center plate and Totems until three people have crossed and docked their swords. Have them hold the Totems and plate on that side, while the rest of the fireteam continues killing Swordbearers and crossing over.

Once everyone has crossed the bridge, have one person take the Chalice, and start a new rotation to Enlighten your team.

Clear all the adds and until the Gatekeepers arrive. If needed, continue passing the Chalice around now so that more people are Enlightened. Take the sword and smash Gatekeepers. If your health is low you can run away or jump on top of something out of the enemies reach, the Hive Swords don’t despawn, so there is no rush. Kill all the Gatekeepers to advance.

Next is the first boss fight as you challange the Deathsinger, Ir Yut.
