Call of Duty 5 PC beta details

Friends lists, invites, clan tags, etc.

Activision and Treyarch have announced details of the Call of Duty: World at War PC beta - and by extension multiplayer in general.

All you have to do to get on the beta is sign up on the official website, by the sound of it, although there's no specific start date just yet.

"All registered users", the site says in bold, including people who sign up after the beta starts, will receive a special key that enables them to create a unique profile name and play.

The profile name is necessary because Call of Duty 5 introduces friends lists and invite options on the PC side (for the first time, apparently). "We didn't want the new squad mechanics we've developed to get watered down on the PC," the post explains.

However, you will be able to add in a clan tag as a prefix.

The beta will allow you to host your own servers, and service providers will be able to do the same, although the site notes that the dedicated server will be Windows-only for this testing period.

Finally, we're told that accounts will be deleted after the beta finishes, just as they will be on Xbox 360, so your experience, friends and other details will be lost.

The full game is due out for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, PS2 and DS on 14th November. Look out for our full review soon.
