Mistwalker producer Hironobu Sakaguchi has hinted that we could see an online sequel to Blue Dragon.

"We're in talks with Microsoft about development of a sequel," Sakaguchi told Japanese site Gpara.com. "Specifics aren't finalised, but there's a possibility that it will be produced as an online title."

It's not the first time he's expressed an interest in the genre, having previously revealed in a GDC conference that he'd like to talk to Microsoft about making an online role-playing game.

Blue Dragon is JRPG in development at Mistwalker and Artoon. It's based around a boy named Shu and his friends who possess the power to control phantoms that mirror the actions of their masters.

It's a typically lavish romp presented in a very impressive cartoon-inspired style. You'll also be able to create your own original attack methods whilst choosing to focus your approach on various different areas, as your dragon-like shadow levels up and gains new abilities.

The game was released in Japan last December, and met with huge critical acclaim. Blue Dragon is due to be released in Europe in autumn.
