Blizzard vows not to replace Diablo 2 with Diablo 2: Resurrected

Plus, mod support confirmed.

Blizzard has vowed not to replace Diablo 2 with Diablo 2: Resurrected.

In a video Q&A below, principal designer Rob Gallerani said "no, absolutely not" in response to the question: "will D2:R overwrite an original D2 installation?"

"Everything you have about D2 currently will stay D2. This is a separate product, separate game. You can play 'em both at the same time if you want."

This is key because of Blizzard's form with the controversial Warcraft 3 remaster. With the launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged, Blizzard inexplicably scrubbed the original Warcraft 3 client from Battle.net, pushing an update to convert to Reforged, which then let you toggle to the original visuals.

This meant features in the original client that were mysteriously absent from Reforged, such as custom campaign access and support for a competitive ladder, were unavailable to all.

This was seen as a pretty unsavoury move from Blizzard, which faced a torrent of criticism for taking away a product people had already paid for.
