Digital Foundry's Black Friday 2019 tech deals

The biggest shopping holiday of the year is almost here.

Black Friday 2019 is still weeks away, but already the great wheels of the technology industry are in motion, choosing which products will get the big discounts and testing the waters with a few tech titbits.

That's why the Digital Foundry Black Friday hub has arrived, a page where you'll be able to find the best Black Friday discounts on all sorts of tech, gear and gadgets. We're particularly interested in big ticket items, like 4K TVs and PC components, as these typically see big discounts on Black Friday - making it the perfect time of year to upgrade your setup.

When is Black Friday 2019

Black Friday 2019 itself starts on November 29th, 2019, but expect Black Friday deals to run for at least a week beforehand - we'd recommend checking back here on November 15th for the very first batches of deals. However, the vast majority of deals will begin on what is now called Black Friday week, which begins on Monday, November 25th and new deals will continue to appear until Friday the 29th. It'll be a little quieter over the weekend, and then there's also Cyber Monday to remember, which this year will take place on December 2nd.

How to prepare for Black Friday 2019

The most important thing to prepare for Black Friday is to write down what product or type of product you're interested in - e.g. "a recent LG OLED" or "an RTX 2080 graphics card" - along with how much you're prepared to pay for the device. You may find it helpful to look at the current prices in the shops or in online retailers like Amazon. When Black Friday rolls around, if the product goes under the price you're prepared to pay, buy it straight away.

Normally, we see the best deals during Black Friday week itself, with a few hot ticket items (like OLED TVs or Nintendo Switch Lites) going on sale, selling out and then appearing again. Most importantly, it's rare to see prices continue to fall after a big sale, so if a retailer you trust has discounted the item you're interested in, it's better to get it for that guaranteed low price than hold out for an even lower price and potentially miss out on the sale opportunity.

How Digital Foundry will cover Black Friday 2019

We'll cover both the best UK Black Friday deals and the best US Black Friday deals, and once we get further into it we'll also break down our deals into categories to make it easy to find what you're looking for. Specifically, expect a page for 4K TV deals, monitor deals, graphics card deals, other PC component deals and a whole bunch of PC peripheral deals. Phew!

Black Friday 2019 tech deals UK

Our pick for the best 4K TV for HDR gaming has been reduced to £1299 for the 55-inch model and £1799 for the 65-inch version.

These are massive reductions on critically acclaimed 4K TVs - the 65-inch model is now as cheap as the 55-inch model was just a few months ago - and getting them with a five year guarantee from John Lewis is a great bonus. You can also find the 55-inch LG B9 OLED on Amazon for the same price if you prefer, but the 65-inch deal isn't available on Amazon.

LG's OLEDs are loved by gamers and film enthusiasts alike, thanks to their extremely deep blacks, excellent contrast and rapid pixel response times. The B9 is the most affordable model in the lineup, with the C9 and E9 costing a few hundred pounds more. The B9 uses the same OLED panel as the C9 and E9 so image quality remains impeccable, while a slightly older processor keeps the price low. This results in only minor differences in motion handling and a few missing features, so most experts recommend the B9 as the best value-for-money choice. You can find more information here.
