Modern Warfare Ground War is a massive multiplayer mode where 64 players square off against one another in teams of two.
According to Activision, Ground War offers "large-scale conflict featuring vehicles. Capture and hold objectives to score. Capturing objectives open forward spawning locations for your team. Similar to Domination, but with more objectives."
It's one of the more anticipated modes in the latest Call of Duty, and though it will launch with the game, as of writing (launch day, October 25th) it is currently missing from the multiplayer roster.
Here's what we know about when Ground War will be available.
How to play Ground War in Modern Warfare: When the missing mode will be available
Update (8:35pm, October 25th): Ground War is live, at least for us on PS4 in the UK. Hopefully it'll be rolling out soon for other platforms and regions if it's not live for you already:
Original story: Once you have fully installed Modern Warfare and are able to access multiplayer on launch day, you'll notice that Ground War is not available to play - even with the download of day one patch 1.04.
Don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong and are not alone with the mode being missing. Developer Infinity Ward has disabled the mode temporarily on the morning of the game's release for all players, and will be making it available soon.
As a result, Modern Warfare's Ground War has a release time of Friday night, according to a tweet:
#ModernWarfare launches in less than 24 hours! Jump into Campaign, Special Ops, and Multiplayer, and starting Friday night grab your friends for Ground War! And, for the first time ever, you can earn XP and unlock exclusive gear for Multiplayer and Special Ops through Campaign!— Infinity Ward (@InfinityWard) October 24, 2019
"Friday night" is pretty vague, because not only because it encompasses six to eight hours, but also doesn't specify which time zone this is in.
With Infinity Ward based on the west coast of the US, there is a chance Ground War will be released later into the day, meaning those in the UK might have the wait on their hands.
As a result, we'd probably bank on not playing it on launch day. That's our best guess, anyway - the release could come sooner than we expect.
When Ground War is available, we imagine it'll be a playlist within the main multiplayer lobby screen, making its presence pretty clear.
Why is Ground War missing? Though Infinity Ward hasn't said, Modern Warfare saw some connection problems on the eve of launch day, which could explain why they wanted to limit the number of players entering in a single match.
Massive thank you for your patience and apologies for the delay. Crazy traffic tonight, but servers are coming back online now, and everyone should be able to begin launching Modern Warfare.— Infinity Ward (@InfinityWard) October 25, 2019
Modern Warfare's first Season has arrived! It introduces new Operators such as Nikto as well as new Watches and Blueprints. To get access to most of these, you'll need some COD Points first. There a lot to learn in multiplayer too, including the best guns in Modern Warfare, how to access Modern Warfare Hardcore modes and Modern Warfare Ground War. Finally, there's the story, with a handful of Modern Warfare campaign missions to complete, as well as how to kill a Juggernaut in Modern Warfare.
How many Ground War maps are there in Modern Warfare?
According to early videos by GamingTrendVideos on YouTube, there are three Ground War maps available in Modern Warfare at launch. These are:

Though it's unknown exactly what Ground War updates are coming down the line, Infinity Ward has said new maps in any mode will come as free DLC for all players.
