Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its standalone mode Call of Duty: Warzone offer cross platform play, or cross play if you prefer. According to the official press release from Activision, Modern Warfare's creative director Patrick Kelly said "we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support", and now the game's out in the wild it does indeed work smoothly.

Thankfully it's a very simple feature, requiring you to jump through just the one hoop to get it up and running, so that you can join your mates across any platform - PS4, Xbox One or PC - and get playing.

How cross platform play works Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare

Cross play allows you to team up with and play against players on any platform, regardless of where you're playing yourself, and it works exactly the same in both the base Modern Warfare game and its separate Warzone battle royale mode.

You'll need to do one thing - set up an Activision ID - to get it running, and then once you've done that and signed in on the platform of your choice in-game, you're all set.

You'll be prompted to set up an Activision ID account on starting the game for the first time, but you can also set one up online on the official site if you prefer.

Once that's done, you're good to go!
