Watch Resident Evil 5 being played

Xbox 360 pad controlling demo.

It seems the special DVD attached to the latest edition of Famitsu does indeed show Resident Evil 5 being played.

This contradicts what publisher Capcom told us yesterday, when it said no new gameplay footage would be revealed on the disc.

Videogaming247 unearthed the clip of the hotly-anticipated title in action, so pop over there to whet your whistle.

The demonstration is controlled using an Xbox 360 pad, which is compatible with PC; this is not necessarily Xbox 360 footage, then.

The clip shows protagonist Chris wandering around the desert village that may or may not be in Africa where elephants and rhinos are. Enemy zombies stand around and are shot in the face with a shotgun; evidently they can't think for themselves yet.

It all looks to be coming along nicely, and you can catch up with all the information released so far in our Resident Evil 5 gamepage.

    Beautiful.

If it REALLY will look like this on the 360 or PS3 I will finally be firmly convinced that next gen gaming (or this gen now) has finally arrived.
  • bad09 #2 4 years ago

    Looks good, can't wait!

I do wish though Capcom would do something for those of us who miss the old style Resi. :(
  • JohnnyWashnGo #3 4 years ago

    Very, very nice looking.

I loved Resi4 so much. It shot some much needed life into a failing franchise.
This looks set to continue that trend into the latest generation of consoles.

    @bad09:
Like a nice DS adventure...Yeah, that'd be great...As long as they don't shoehorn in the microphone...

might not be on the 360? the 360 wired pad works on the PC doesnt it?

or am I talking out of my arse?
  • bad09 #6 4 years ago

    @AcidSnake

well I was thinking more of some nice old skool Resi action with HD next gen graphics on 360 or PS3. :)

    Takeuchi Interview (very rough/basic translation)

Footage of the devs examining Chris' Biohazard 5 character model on a PC. The original Biohazard was developed on older hardware, but in 5, the hardware allows for the character models to be adapted to various situations.

There were various teams that could make the game at the beginning.
Africa confirmed - Or, at the very least, the village is modeled after an African village
Sunlight will be a focus of the game to achieve a new kind of feel not done before.

Chris at first can walk around the village with no one attacking him, but he sees two people attacking another and dragging the guy into the room. Chris follows in, and the action starts after the mutation.

More footage of Chris fighting the ganados. So far, it's very similar to RE4.

    5's System
Shinji Mikami's Biohazard 4 is the base for the system, with evolutions and improvements planned.

    Chris Redfield
Takeuchi was a staff member of the original Biohazard, of which Chris was a star of. 5 takes place 10 years after the original RE, and Chris has a new mission.

    Weapon Variation
Chris is up against a huge number of enemies. The game will have variation in weapons including series classics like the Handgun and Shotgun and such. The footage shows the developers examining a handgun character model.

    Fight Elements
The game will make use of the action buttons (QTEs) from Biohazard 4 once again.

    Message to the Fans
Fans have eagerly awaited prior titles and now await Biohazard 5. Capcom's working hard on the game's unexpected graphics, system and story. The Biohazard series has taken on various forms in its history. Presently a CG movie is also in works (Biohazard Degeneration) and that will be shown as well. There is a lot to look forward to in the Biohazard world this year. We will delve down into the story and characters of the Biohazard series, and thus this year will be filled with Biohazard. Please look forward to more information on the title this year.

    Final World from Mr. Takeuchi

"As far as we’re aware, this is the first time the game’s been seen in playable form, contrary to this Eurogamer report that said nothing new was going to be included."

    lol
  • Bagpuss #11 4 years ago

Well seeing as just about all 360 and PS3 games are developed on PC based dev kits, what you saw was almost certainly game code running 'through' PC hardware, which isnt unusual seeing as both the 360 and PS3 have so much in common with PC tech.

    OMG TEH RACISMS!!!1!

"i'm looking forward to the fight versus the zombie-rhino."

    You sir, are a genius.
  • crozon #13 4 years ago

so maybe we get this on the PC at the same time? would be nice
  • coojam #14 4 years ago

RE4 was great, but I miss the zombies...
  • DUFFMAN5 #15 4 years ago

............Have you seen his Triceps!!!! obviously been working out since he (C.R) starred in a Resi.
I'm lookng forward to this, but like it has been mentioned I do miss the old settings and story. Remix/Buff them up (2 to Code X) and release on the psp.

"seeing as just about all 360 and PS3 games are developed on PC based dev kits"

No they're not, they're based on the hardware of the systems themselves, 360 and PS3 are actually very different to PCs architecturally.

The fact that this footage is shown on an HDTV screen rather than a dedicated PC monitor (as can be seen in the model viewing shots), makes it seem plausible to me that it's running on an actual 360. Especially since there's a PS3 pad in shot, too, which suggests parallel testing. Capcom have had three high-profile, great looking games out on 360 (and PS3) already after all.
  • Rash' #17 4 years ago

I'll be interested to see how this game pans out. Resi 4 on Wii evolved the series further than the traditional game pad experience on PS2/GC. Looks good, but then you'd expect that with these HD consoles.
  • Daymare #18 4 years ago

Whoever brought a topic of racism up on account of RE5's setting is in fact himself a racist.
  • bitesize #19 4 years ago

surely all they need to do then is include a few token white zombies that you have to shoot as well. job done, political correctness morons appeased...
  • Artemus #20 4 years ago

I hope there's some nighttime sections. A sunshine soaked Africa doesn't emote much fear to me.
  • Daymare #21 4 years ago

No, not you, penguin_overlord:) I was talking about the media and this "controversy" they're talking about when it comes to the RE5. What controversy!? Racism never even crossed my mind when I saw the first trailer.
  • Beek4257 #22 4 years ago

So Resi4 promoted shooting Spanish people then?
  • Camorrista #23 4 years ago

Artemus, watch how the screen goes dark for about three seconds when he steps from the daylight into the building (quite realistically IMO). That's something they could only do with the daylight setting, and as far as I've understood they're engineering the game design specifically around this effect.
I like the daylight setting, let's see how scary/threatening they can get the atmosphere with it.

I have to say, however, that I really noticed the absence of gunshot wounds on the zombies. In RE4, all the enemies either wore drab colors or had pretty holes in them after you shot them. Here, with all the white shirts, it doesn't look convincing at all.
  • septimus #24 4 years ago

Capcom develops there games in a virtualised environment. That will just be their dev PC running the 360 build. When it comes to compiling, the system outputs code for both systems.

That is why Capcom will never push either system this generation. They are going for best effort on both using this system, but they feel they have to save costs. Devil May Cry 4 I believe was there first game to use this dev system.
  • Razorus #25 4 years ago

I wonder if La Plaga is to blame again? The guy he shoots in the demo melts away like in RE4. I want answers Capcom!
  • Pulsar_t #26 4 years ago

RE4 onwards has little to do with the original Resi hasn't it? I wasn't gobsmacked by RE4 at all.. Someone just neglected to create a spooky 3rd person shooter is all :D
  • Kill_Crazy #27 4 years ago

Can't wait for this game. Hope it lives up to expectations (mine at least).

    RE: Racism

The person who cries racism is the racist as the game wasn't thought of as racist until this person has declared it racist. Therefore they must be looking closely at what is happening between the races portrayed in the game and hasn't seen them all as people but some as white people and some as black people (or brown or whatever you want). It's this segregation of races that defines racism. No need to tarnish Capcom with it.
  • Pulsar_t #28 4 years ago

    @Bagpuss

Except in this shot the PS pad like a wired DualShock2 from the looks of it. Wouldn't matter really; the game should be identical technically. And so far it hasn't impressed me.
  • david78 #29 4 years ago

    @ Pulsart

    It's definitely a PS3 pad.
  • VMerken #30 4 years ago

I do wish Capcom keep the RE4 vibe going, wouldn't want to miss it - the old vibe's just too slow and less choking than the current one. Let's hope RE5 will shoot even more life into a great main title franchise.

WILL WAIT FOR THE MEDIA SUMMIT, mister Takeuchi. V^_^V

I reckon we need the oldschool Resi's on Xbox Live, with achievements.

Basically just so I have an excuse to play through Resi 3... Again
