Capcom to make Wii Resi fans "happy"

"Very soon," says marketing man.

One of Capcom's marketing men has dropped a big hint that Resident Evil may be on its way to Nintendo Wii again.

Speaking to Joystiq at a Canadian press event, associate product marketing manager Matt Dahlgren teased: "[Resident Evil 5] was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3. That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon."

Meanwhile, in an unrelated post on the Capcom-Unity blog (thanks vg247), the publisher said to expect "new game announcements" at its San Francisco launch party on 12th March.

Capcom has previously said that it would like to return to Nintendo Wii following the success of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

Speaking to Eurogamer TV last month, producer Masachika Kawata said: "Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family. At the moment we don't know and have just been working on Resident Evil 5, so watch this space."

We're watching. Check out our Resident Evil 5 review in the meantime.

I don't see why Capcom couldn't release Resident Evil 5 for the Wii anyway with fewer enemies and a few tweaks here and there. Oh and poorer graphics but Wii owners have never been bothered about those anyway. I mean the new game is basically Resident Evil 4 with HD graphics and co-op, right?

A remake of Resident Evil 2 and 3 with Resident Evil 4's control scheme and third-person camera would be awesome though, if only because the third game is the only one I've never played so it would be great to play an updated version of Nemesis.

If this ends up being a port of Resident Evil: Degeneration on N-gage, they won't be happy at all. Great game, but 2 hours long on a conservative playthough. It'd make nice Wiiware at 500 points though.

But Resi 2 with Resi 4 camera/controls would guarentee my money.

it will be UC2 i reckon unfortunately, they will have looked at resi 4 wii's sales, looked at UC's sales, note that resi 4 sold more, then somehow come to the conclusion that the wii audience are more suited to umbrella chronicles as moving is too hard, outsourced to a B rate dev again...

Maybe they've found that secret HDMI port and the real CPU on the Wii - freedom for all!

what remake have Nintendo convinved Capcom to do now?
  • youhavenomail #8 3 years ago

That should make up for the PS3/360 owners left unhappy by the 7/10 Resi 5. That game had disappointment written all over it long before the infamously dull demo. I'm only surprised Chris Redfield isn't shaven headed to go along with his new GOW muscles.

So the 0.5% of total 360/PS3 owners who read the EG review and took it seriously then?
  • CallousB #10 3 years ago

I'd be happy if they finished the original supernatural version of RE4 they started for the Gamecube.

Oh god I just read "something on Wii in the Resident Evil family" as "Wii Resident Evil family game" and wasn't surprised.

But no, I'd only be very happy if it was a port of Resident Evil 5. A Code Veronica remake, Umbrella Chronicles2 or some sort of light gun game (especially with the several zombie light gun games already on the Wii) really wouldn't interest me.

I mean Resident Evil 5 HAS to be done on the Wii. So many people bought the Wii version of RE4 for the control system so it's just crying out to repeat that success with its sequel.

"So the 0.5% of total 360/PS3 owners who read the EG review and took it seriously then?"

And the Edge readers. And those who watch its Metacritic score plummet now the hype reviews are out of the way. And, of course, those whose minds were made up after the abysmal demo.
  • kinky_mong #13 3 years ago

There was an abysmal demo? I only played the good demo which showed how well implemented the online co-op is.

Did I miss out on the terrible demo? Was it like the Dead Space demo which was completely unrepresentative of the full game?

I think those facetious lines have made my point. The point being that I'm going to actually play the full proper game before making wild claims about it.

A new version of Resi 2 using the Resi 4 style engine would be amazing if done correctly, and could look even better than Resi 4 as it wouldn't be restricted by Game Cube specs.

Another Umbrella Chronicles might not be so bad either as it would surely have to incorporate Resi 2 and Resi 4 this time around.

I really wouldn't like to see a cut down version of RE5 on Wii, it would be like Dead Rising all over again. It would look poor, and without online co-op or proper comunication support via Wii Speak, would fail from the offset, as the AI on Wii would be even worse for Sheva.

I also don't want to see a 'new way to play' old Game Cube title 0,1, 2, 3 etc..

So for me it's got to be either of the first two possiblities or like someone else said a whole new proper RE game created for Wii, a true sequel to RE4 if you will.. anything else will be a disappiontment really!

Am I the only one who rates Resident Evil 2 (and 3) as the worst in the series? I mean they are great games and very worthy additions to the series - but I find walking around a zombie infested city much more dull than creepy isolated mansions, islands and villages.

I liked UC. It was a bit weird as it didn't 'feel' like a lightgun game when that was what it was trying to be but from a fan's perspective, there was some good stuff in there especially the tying up of loose plot ends. Plus it looked pretty good graphically considering everyone says the Wii is crap for visuals and all.
  • gelf #17 3 years ago

I just wanna say no thanks to the suggestion of RE4 controls lumped onto resi 2. I want slow moving zombies to actually be a threat. Plus I like crazy camera angles :p

    @sega
I agree with you on 3. 2 however didn't spend that much time in the city really and the police station was creepy enough(though no RE1 mansion I admit). In my case it helps that William is probably my fave enemy in the series.
