Sony's E3 2012 Conference Finished

Update: It's all over! At the end of a mammoth first day of E3 week, Sony closed things out with a bunch of mostly expected announcements and some powerful stage demos. Here's the highlights:

- Beyond trailer stars Ellen Page from Heavy Rain
- Quantic Dream's Beyond confirmed, Ellen Page onboard
- The Last of Us gameplay trailer (video)
- God of War Ascension release date announced
- PlayStation Suite renamed PlayStation Mobile
- Sony's London studio working with JK Rowling on Wonderbook
- Assassin's Creed 3 getting PS3-exclusive DLC
- PSone Classics coming to PS Vita this summer
- PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale trailer
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified confirmed for Vita
- Cross-controller DLC coming for LittleBigPlanet 2
- PlayStation Move steering wheel uncovered

Original story: Join us from 2am UK time on the morning of Tuesday 5th June for live coverage of Sony's annual E3 press conference.

Sony's heading back to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, scene of last year's conference, for a couple of hours (or more, knowing them) of graphs, games and banter.

Fresh (or thereabouts) from a day covering Microsoft's conference and several others, Eurogamer's Robert Purchese will be offering live updates throughout Sony's event. Tom Bramwell and others may also chip in with updates.

What can we expect from Sony? Well, there's the rumoured Gaikai tie-up, which could come to light, plus stage demos of games like God of War Ascension, The Last of Us and - maybe - Quantic Dream's new game. We sincerely hope so.

There will undoubtedly be some movement on the PS Vita front, too, which is good news for those of you running out of things to do with it.

Join us and find out what all those plans are. Who knows, you may even get a sniff of the next-generation PlayStation 4. It seems only fair if we have to stay up that late.

@Kingdom well i guess you can be happy that Nintendo had the worst show of E3... don't know how anyone could mess that up.

Enjoy your Nintendoland...haha. Extremely poor indeed!
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

@kubson84 they certainly did talk about the book of spells way to long for my liking.. was pretty boring. Vita - not sure what Sony are doing.. they seem to be just holding ground on it for the moment.. i suspect TGS or Gamescom might have more info (fingers crossed)
  • kubson84 2 years ago

    @makeamazing

come on pls :) most of the sony conference was about books of spells :) what can i say... hmmm maybe RIP vita & sony :)
  • ronecvan_is_here 2 years ago

@KingDom, judging by your largely juvenile responses (probably because it's half term) and half-assed attempts at humour, I doubt you even have a girlfriend let alone be capable of sustaining a relationship for longer than 5 seconds. Please do us all a favour and go play pokemon, whilst you're 'fucking'.
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

@Kingdom woah calm down kid... I know schools out and mommy lets you use the internet, but seriously ;)
  • ro-bo 2 years ago

RIP Vita :(. FUCK YOU SONY
  • razzafazza 2 years ago

    nice conference for me

    1. i m glad i didnt day-one the vita seeing all the potential i saw in it is clearly not in sony s mind.

    2. after Dragons Dogma i can finally sell the PS3 and wont miss out on anything that doesnt come to PC.

no offense to anyone who likes these kind of games but i m dead bored of first/third person shooters and interactive movies :p
  • stryker1121 2 years ago

All this peripheral shit is lost on me. All I care about are the games, and I don't care about exclusives for this or that console. Just give me good games and I'm happy. Can MS and Sony manage even that?
  • TheEarlOfZinger 2 years ago

Where in the FUCK is the last guardian?!
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

With the amount of games coming out Jan-March next year, it does seem like a final goodbye to this generation. It's like they are all pushing whatever games they have left for this period.
  • dimitrisdiamantis 2 years ago

With only Nintendo's show left, Ubisoft is stealing the show so far.
Smartglass and playstation mobile... is this the future of gaming?
    Seriously?
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

@kubson84, nah Sony's was bad, but it couldn't compete with MS's terrible show... i mean most of the show was on smart glass, a totally pointless and meaningless tech.
  • kubson84 2 years ago

this conference was worst than MS hahahaa sony is pathetic company hahaah
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

Anyone else get the impression this was more like a winding down of this gen... e.g we don't want to announce too much stuff as we have a new console coming. I wouldn't be surprised if we here something before the next E3.
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

"So all this graphic violence in place of quality is your fault?"

@kingdom, hey everyone to their own. You think games with graphic violence means a lack of quality, I think you are wrong. I am an adult who likes games with adult themes... i am not bothered about games like pokemon or animal crossing. If you are... thats great.
  • Durandle 2 years ago

Well that was boring. Lots of blood and violence to cover up a complete lack of imagination. I'm not sure I want yet more graphic ways of killing people/things. At least all-stars looked like fun (I know I know, I used the "F" word).
  • uzivatel 2 years ago

Seems like both Microsoft and Sony are going to introduce new console on the next E3.
  • MartinScott 2 years ago

I was going to buy a Vita this week had a price drop been announced... looks like its going to die before I buy....
  • BloodSaint 2 years ago

    Honestly I'm a bit disappointed.
  • collateral89 2 years ago

Liking the look of last of us and ps Allstars actually looks good
  • TheEarlOfZinger 2 years ago

    Underwhelming. Oh well.
  • 43n1m4 2 years ago

Even as an owner of an Xbox, I really think Sony catered to the gamers here. MS is too focused on being everything for everyone with their abstract presentation. Oh well, bring on the next gen.
  • jellyBelly 2 years ago

sine mora on vita was the most interesting piece of news from Sony for me, ill probabaly pick up last of us as well.
  • snafu65 2 years ago

Better than Microsoft, but how could it not be their show was a disaster.
  • Bloobat 2 years ago

Yeah to be honest I was pretty dissapointed and was definitly not worth staying up for:( was expecting more but was not a disaster...

What I am wondering is if the new ps+ stuff is available here in the uk or do we get shafted?
  • LLT_taz 2 years ago

Just watched this morning.... better than microsoft.. more new IP's. Beyond, last of us, battle royal, LBP karting, Wonderbook. then few Vita games..... Not bad on the games view as that is what it a games machine Unlike the sh itty Microsoft ....

New bundles on vita or a price cut for ps3 would have shaken things up a little .

  • Gambit1977 2 years ago

    There's always the TGS.
  • frazzl 2 years ago

Nintendo would really have to fuck things up to do any worse than MS or Sony.
  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

Im happy with MS and Sony so far. The show could be better, but do remember we are teetering on the edge of a new generation of consoles, and these are still very austeric times. Many games will be held off for those systems etc.

    @Vizini
Last Guardian will more than likely be on PS4 now, since they've been making it so long.

Chill people, Still got two days to go, and more stuff will be revealed somehow.
  • vizzini 2 years ago

I liked most of what was shown like the last of us, but was really hoping for a Last Guardian update, maybe even a Vita version announced. Also expected a new PS3 super slim 25nm model, maybe even an addon Cell with more memory pack, and was really expected a new rebuild of Metal Gear Solid 1 announcement and a much bigger reveal about Playstation Mobile software, to offset them pulling ICS from the Play the other day. E3 has lost its importance now imo.
  • Tekkirai 2 years ago

My god that was boring, they both practically handed it all to Nintendo
  • memeroot 2 years ago

Why did thy even bother? Why did I.
Even ms had that glass thing.
Where was vita where was the cloud?

    Heck where was a game!
  • TazerFan 2 years ago

Thought MS had a slightly better showing. Neither was impressive. If we need the new consoles to usher in fresh game ideas, hurry the fuck up with it.
  • mandeep100 2 years ago

Could not care less about the book thing at all. They talked about that way too much and where the hell are all the vita games?!?!? Kinda regretting purchasing a vita day one now :( last of us and god of war atleast looked fantastic
  • kitsuneyo 2 years ago

@SpaceMonkey77 If that's the case it's been a poor E3. I hope Nintendo bring something good to the table!
  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

Beyond does look very cool too. Good to see i'll have some ps3 games to buy.

Certainly hand dev of the show to Ubisoft. Nintendo are unlikely to bring new IP like Ubi just did.
  • sfp_noodle 2 years ago

Ok, as impressive as God of War and The Last of Us looked, I'm seriously worried about the Vita. I mean they announced AC3 for it, but absolutely nothing from one oft heir own studios. Doest hat mean there's only third party titles coing out for it at Xmas? Sony really aren't learnng from their mistakes, they're letting the Vita die. Cross-play sounds fun and all but there's still no new titles added.
  • wellzy4eva 2 years ago

Nintendo are gonna be justifying the WiiU too much to talk about new games...
  • 32768Colours 2 years ago

Was that it then? A couple of good games and a bloody AR book thingy?

Jeez, why do I stay up for these things every time?
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

Unless Nintendo bring out some hardcore games i think Ubisoft have taken the prize of best show... can't see Nintendo showing anything other than cutesy kiddy stuff that i am really not interested in.
  • wellzy4eva 2 years ago

I was expecting a lot more Vita games...
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

Last of us looked great, Beyond looks interesting... Battle Royal thingy is not going to sell... and where was all the vita games?
  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

All hanging on Nintendo now. For some reason, I think we've seen the best of the show today, game wise.
  • o_ci2007 2 years ago

    @johnson81 i agree.
  • digitalash 2 years ago

@ukuleleimport, sorry, I meant it looks like it PLAYS nothing like Uncharted, more like a stealth/survival horror game. Graphics are quite similar, but that's hardly a bad thing.
  • HurbleBurble 2 years ago

Beyond and The Last of Us saved that from being very undercooked.
  • kitsuneyo 2 years ago

A game about the last humans and you have to kill them all? Also, it really does look just like Uncharted.
  • homelessbaby 2 years ago

@johnson81 my thoughts exactly. this was their chance and we got nothing. i bet all the good vita games are never released outside of japan
  • o_ci2007 2 years ago

a bit disappointed. only 2 games worth buying.
  • makeamazing 2 years ago

oh well not worth staying up till 2am for... disappointed to be honest, and they spent way to long on the book thingy
  • wellzy4eva 2 years ago

  • ukuleleimport 2 years ago

@digitalash What are you talking about? Looked exactly like Uncharted! Hope it skips the bad of it and keeps the good, then might be worth a play.
  • johnson81 2 years ago

Where are the Vita games you twats? The Viat is gonna die on it's arse.
  • dsmx 2 years ago

  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

Jeez, Last of Us I want you in my PS3. Best thing about it, no sign of freaking QTEs, at last. That and God of War nice icing on the cake.
  • Ironic_War_Criminal 2 years ago

Hey. Turns out if you make your protag an amoral asshole, Naughty Dog can make a consistent narrative. Now why didn't they think of that in the first place.

I know I'm a cynical bastard but it all looks scripted to shit. Until it actually comes out I'm not that impressed.
  • digitalash 2 years ago

Deserved a round of applause. Also definitely not looking like Uncharted.
  • 32768Colours 2 years ago

HUD could do with being more discreet, because it seems a bit "in the way" being in the top left corner like that.

  • Fudce 2 years ago

Kratos has some serious Anger Management issues. He needs to stop playing those video game things. The Daily Mail tells me that they're the cause of Cancer and make children wear hoodies and kill pensioners.
  • Lyca 2 years ago

ah well at least 'Beyond' looks good. Looks like French devs are the only ones willing to take a risk in these times.
  • FunkeeFresh 2 years ago

I know that elephants pain..... why won't kratos just die!!!??
  • digitalash 2 years ago

Only Beyond had the wow factor, I'm afraid, and they played that trump card early.
  • dsmx 2 years ago

this game looks incredible, why is a next gen of consoles needed if they can manage this on current hardware?
  • bemaniac 2 years ago

    This soundshapes looks interesting.
  • Psychotext 2 years ago

Who are these horrible people in the video?

    Blech.
  • dogmanstaruk 2 years ago

@SpaceMonkey77 At this stage MS seem to be concerned more with competing with Apple TV, than building their gaming business.

If I was MS I wouldn't be over-confident. Overall sales are only 3m ahead of the PS3, and outside of the UK they don't have Europe.

If it wasn't for dominating the US it would be a completely different story for them. But we all know how quickly that domination could swing back to Sony next gen.
  • vizzini 2 years ago

    @HIO
The timer seems to have gone through zero and going up now, so I assume it is already live on the US PSN. Sadly it must be another 24hrs wait for me in the UK.
  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

I can undestand why Edge were underwhelmed by MS's con, I was a bit too. I think MS have to stop eating so much media money, and pump it into making some much needed new IP.

    @Threemoh
Don't know sir. Saw the new THQ chappy on Gametrailers and he seemed okay, and had no news like that.
  • HIO 2 years ago

@vizzini WHAT?!!, I will still be awake for Nintendo's conference if this is true, Thought it would be in the evening.
  • carlosdfn 2 years ago

OK, let's see some gameplay for The Last of Us, Beyond and GoW Ascension single player.
  • threemoh 2 years ago

I'm hearing rumours that THQ have sneakily shut their San Diego studio, burying it in the noise of E3.

    Anyone heard anything more?
  • Brianstorm 2 years ago

So it it to late in the generation to hope for cross game/party chat, seeing as Vita manages it?
  • dogmanstaruk 2 years ago

Well after reading Edge's review of Microsoft's conference Sony have an easy start.

Somehow I think Edge aren't impressed. Don't blame them it was awful.

  • vizzini 2 years ago

According to virtuafighter.com the new version of Virtua Fighter 5 Final showdown is supposed to be live in fifteen minutes, which I was planning on buying/playing briefly before this press conference, but have a horrid feeling it won't go live on the UK PSN until Wednesday.

Was sort of surprised Microsoft didn't pay Sega some respect and plug the game's release in their conference.
  • chessboxer 2 years ago

CS:GO For Vita? With mouse & keboard support?
  • HIO 2 years ago

@SpaceMonkey77 Too True...There is some hope though. Agree that Watch Dogs looks great, show is cool overall so far, though Microsoft were very underwhelming.
  • Brianstorm 2 years ago

    And CS:GO for Vita
  • Brianstorm 2 years ago

@dogmanstaruk was also hoping or Valve with HL3!
  • dogmanstaruk 2 years ago

@Brianstorm We would be lucky to get one of them, let alone both of them.
  • SpaceMonkey77 2 years ago

    @HIO
Those we probably stay dreams, HIO, as much as I'd like to see them too.

Love the show so far, though. Watch Dogs looks like this gen.
  • Brianstorm 2 years ago

Respawns and Rockstar on stage for SONY?
  • dogmanstaruk 2 years ago

I wonder if there will be any true big announcements. I know traditionally R* don't do E3, but I was half hoping to see GTA at one of the conferences. Especially considering the several Oct launch rumours floating around.
  • chessboxer 2 years ago

Kojima has been spotted at the Sony conference
  • CloisterBlack 2 years ago

..right now I am watching the game demo [UK] video of Watch Dogs, and I can't help but hope that this will be for the next gen of consoles.
  • CloisterBlack 2 years ago

Oh, boy, I just watched the Watch Dogs introduction trailer. Intriguing. And scary, because its premise is true.
  • dogmanstaruk 2 years ago

One of the handy things of being made unemployed is that I can stay up and watch the Sony conference.

    Silver linings and all that:D
  • HIO 2 years ago

I don't go to bed until around 5 anyhow, I wish the Nintendo show was straight after the Sony one, though that is something to look forward to tomorrow. Dreams of new F-Zero and Shenmue 3 tonight for sure, Virtua Fighter 6 and Zone Of the Enders 3 also please, for starters...
  • Triggerhappytel 2 years ago

Come on Sony; announce Demon's Souls 2 and the conference is yours :D

I'm not gonna stay up to watch it though - usually I find the actual shows to be a lot of padding and a bit dull. I'll catch the highlights in the morning.
  • amplifiedAnt 2 years ago

It was about an hour and a half last year wasn't it? Most of the interesting stuff will probably be within the first 60 mins though, unless there's surprises at the end.
  • Lunastra78 2 years ago

Please no more dubstep or Usher, my ears are about to commit seppuku.

  • funkateer 2 years ago

Don't write off Resi 6 just yet. I've seen 30 minutes of it, and MS' presentation did not do justice to it at all. From what I've seen, Resi 6 is about slow build-up and lots of tension. MS' presentation just showed a few minutes of out of context footage.
  • smilernick 2 years ago

Looking forward to Sony! Microsoft's was crap and totally put me of Resi 6. Hopefully Sony show us some Last of Us, GTA/Agent and Vita games.

  • Osahi 2 years ago

I do hope they have a suprise up their sleeve. Big unanounced, or not leaked, exclusive. But as the big anouncement is probably Beyond, I think they already jumped the gun on that one.

Most suprises will probably come on Vita though. My two cents a major Sony Studio anounces a game for Vita. Probably Guerrilla Games
  • htuk91 2 years ago

I'll watch this in the morning :)
  • Gimpy_Wonderland 2 years ago

The Last of Us, Beyond, PS All Stars, God of War, and (hopefully) a tonne of Vita stuff.

  • lifebehindthewood 2 years ago

Very interested to hear about this Playstation Plus revamp.

Our live coverage has now ended. Here's what you missed: Updating...

21:41 By Tom Bramwell

The US team is still motoring around LA, bouncing between Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft conferences, which all take place before Sony's. Once we do kick off at 2am UK time, you can hopefully watch a video feed (courtesy of YouTube) while keeping up with Bertie's on-site live text commentary.

21:41 By Tom Bramwell

If you don't see the YouTube video window, refresh your browser and it should appear.

01:44 By Robert Purchese

Hello readers! We're here at the Memorial Sports Arena to watch Sony's E3 press conference. Sony's having a mini-festival outside, with tents, bars, food kiosks and a DJ. It makes a change from queuing round the block for a stuffy theatre.

01:44 By Robert Purchese

On stage here is a team of Sony people playing various known Sony games - Uncharted 3 et al. The lights are blue, the auditorium is filling up.

01:46 By Robert Purchese

Thanks for staying up with us, Eurogamer readers. This promises to be an exciting conference. There are plenty of rumours swimming around about Gaikai and about David Cage's new game. Can't imagine it will be any more stale than Microsoft's conference this morning.

01:48 By Robert Purchese

So, so far today we've had Usher gyrating on stage, and at Ubisoft's conference we had Flo Rida with a dance troop of girls. Who will Sony wheel out? Oli thinks Florence and the Machine. He thinks Sony will be classy.

01:50 By Robert Purchese

Will Kaz Hirai, newly crowned king of Sony Corporation, make an appearance? Will he and Jack Tretton trade fashion quips like last year. Who will be wearing salmon pink? Who will be wearing wilted rose? Spring blossom?

01:52 By Robert Purchese

Oli Welsh bumped into Mark Rein earlier at our hotel. He said it was Unreal. No, err.

01:55 By Robert Purchese

The announcer announces, appropriately enough, that we'll be kicking off in five minutes. That's five Sony minutes, so probaby 10.

01:57 By Robert Purchese

Fred Dutton spotted ex-Capcom man Keiji Inafune on his way in. He's making a Vita game called Soul Sacrifice now.

01:58 By Robert Purchese

The robot lady is mumbling. The auditorium is filling. We're ever so close to the off.

Sharzam says:

Something tells me Sony will have some real big surprise. However in this day and age its impossible to be surprised with the internet.

02:00 By Robert Purchese

A solid vision!

chessboxer says:

I predict more dubstep

02:01 By Robert Purchese

The lights are dimming. The crowd are cheering. Here we go.

02:01 By Robert Purchese

DUBSTEP ALERT!

02:02 By Tom Bramwell

Dubsteeeeeeep! Straight in with the griiiiiiime!

02:02 By Oli Welsh

10 seconds to dubstep. A new E3 conference record.

02:03 By Robert Purchese

We're watching a PlayStation showreel. We're seeing games, PSN stuff, PSN Plus, Vita. It's setting the tone - we've seen it all before.

02:04 By Robert Purchese

More and more frantic - the music's thumping!

02:05 By Robert Purchese

And now, over to Jack Tretton, Sony US boss. He looks a bit like William Shatner.

02:06 By Robert Purchese

We have the most passionate consumers in the world, he says. The crowd, those passionate consumers, are cheering. "This is the Superbowl" of gaming, he says. He thinks we're going to judge him, Sony, on this performance. Us?

02:07 By Robert Purchese

Cringe alert. Jack Tretton is thanking you, the consumers, for being the real inspiration.

02:08 By Robert Purchese

He's picking out someone in the audience. Who is it who is it. It's Kaz Hirai!

02:08 By Oli Welsh

I'm sure I bought a used Subaru Legacy off Jack Tretton once.

02:08 By Robert Purchese

"I love you man." Tretton's entertaining.

02:09 By Robert Purchese

He's showing us a completely new IP. It's Quantic Dream's new game. The crowd are Beyond excited.

02:10 By Robert Purchese

David Cage is emotionally striding on stage. He's going to announce his new game and it's called... Beyond. What a surprise!

02:11 By Robert Purchese

He's talking about the Jody character that Beyond follows through 15 years of her life. For the first time in a video game we'll live the life of a character, Cage tells us.

02:12 By Robert Purchese

The name of the actress playing Jody Holmes is... Ellen Page, her from Juno.

02:12 By Robert Purchese

She's got lots of silver spots! Oh no, it's motion capture balls. You could say she's got a lot of balls. We're going to see a trailer. Holmes/Page in a chair at a US police station.

02:14 By Robert Purchese

The Holmes is sitting, not giving the officer anything. But weird things are happening. Who is she? Why has she got short hair? Why is there a scar on her head. Oh no! A smashed coffee cup - who will clear that up etc.? The office must be angry because he's leaving the room.

02:16 By Robert Purchese

A SWAT team arrives. They're after Holmes! They surround the office she's sitting in, ready to make their move. The music stirrs, building. Tension. The officer opens the door.

bemaniac says:

nothing wrong with this. Alan Wake crossed with Heavy Rain :D

02:17 By Robert Purchese

Now we're seeing a montage of action from the game. A helicopter bursts into flame as it crashes. They're all chasing Holmes. She's threatening to kill everyone. Does she have super powers? Who's she talking to?

02:18 By Robert Purchese

If you make the right decisions in the game, maybe you will discover what lies beyond, teases Cage. And he's off. That's Beyond: Two Souls.

02:19 By Robert Purchese

Tretton is back on and tells us that the PS3, six years old now, continues to "shatter" expectations. Only on PS3 will you see HD graphics, apparently!

02:19 By Oli Welsh

I saw Beyond and spoke to David Cage about it yesterday; check the site at 4am for my report. Directing Ellen Page is "like driving a Ferrari", apparently. I love David Cage.

02:20 By Robert Purchese

He's talking about the Michael character in that Sony video that went viral and was really rather good. We're on to PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale. All Sony's pin-ups batter each other in this Smash Bros.-inspired title.

02:21 By Robert Purchese

It looks like we're going to have an on-stage demonstration of the game. A team of gamers, all wearing brightly coloured t-shirts, has walked on stage. They're lit with steam and yellow lighting. They could be in a pop video.

02:22 By Robert Purchese

PlayStation All Stars will be available on PlayStation Vita and will have cross-platform play. We're about to see this in action.

02:23 By Robert Purchese

The characters fight in their signature styles, and they're building 'super' bars. It's no Ellen Page.

Chompee says:

Princess Peach has really let herself go.

02:25 By Robert Purchese

Sweet Tooth's level three super makes him massive and dishes out the damage. It's smooth, solid, well made.

digitalash says:

Can you play as Ellen Page?

02:26 By Robert Purchese

Uncharted music!

02:27 By Robert Purchese

Nathan Drake and Big Daddy from BioShock playable in PlayStation All Stars, it looks like.

02:28 By Robert Purchese

Tretton's telling us you can transfer saves from PS3 to Vita in PlayStation All Stars. You can take your game on the go, in other words. Later this year there will be cross-controller DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2.

02:29 By Robert Purchese

The new DLC will offer a new story mode, new stickers and costumes, Tretton says.

02:30 By Robert Purchese

The industry's best online destination is PlayStation Network, Tretton tells us. 80 per cent of PS3s and Vitas are online. There are 1500 downloadable titles.

02:30 By Robert Purchese

He's talking about Vita being a hub for indie games. He's wheeling out Journey, which really is very good. Unfinished Swan. There will be more than 200 groundbreaking games coming to PSN in the coming months, he says.

02:31 By Tom Bramwell

Sony's posted the Beyond trailer online and you can watch it on Eurogamer now.

02:31 By Robert Purchese

Now we're onto PlayStation Plus. There have been 60 free PS3 games since it launched, plus all sorts of extras. Now we're hearing about how there will be lots of new PS3 games. 12 in the US this month. Infamous 2. LBP2. Saints Row 2.

02:32 By Robert Purchese

Available from tomorrow, with new games rotating in all the time. It's an instant game collection for $5 a month, he croons.

02:32 By Robert Purchese

Everyone in the audience is going to get a voucher for one year's PlayStation Plus membership. The crowd goes bananas - anyone would think they had just announced a next-gen console.

02:33 By Robert Purchese

He's announcing PS1 Classics for Vita. Yeah! All right! Old games! Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7.

02:33 By Robert Purchese

He's bigging up Vita and how there have been more than 40 games released so far. All kinds of games, that is.

02:34 By Robert Purchese

Uh oh. It's the dreaded PS3 as an entertainment hub talk. Let's hope he doesn't dwell on it like Microsoft did.

02:34 By Robert Purchese

YouTube is coming to Vita, and Hulu Plus and Crackle are also coming to Vita soon, presumably in the US.

02:36 By Tom Bramwell

Tretton just paid tribute to Activision and announced Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified for PS Vita.

02:37 By Tom Bramwell

Now we're seeing a video showing off the new Assassin's Creed game for Vita, starring a new female character. Assassin's Creed III: Liberation. October 2012, same as the main game.

02:38 By Tom Bramwell

Liberaiton is "the complete AC open-world experience on Vita", featuring touch controls, and crossover content between AC3 on PS3 and the Vita version. Connor's tomahawk, upgraded ammunition pouches and some other bits and bobs unlock when you have both.

02:38 By Tom Bramwell

There's also going to be a Vita Assassin's Creed bundle with a Crystal White Vita and a 4GB memory card.

02:39 By Tom Bramwell

Assassin's Creed 3 is "coming to PlayStation 3 in full force", Tretton says. Obviously we saw a bit of this earlier at Ubisoft's conference, but we're getting another look now with creative director Alex Hutchinson and an associate producer.

02:39 By Tom Bramwell

Phillippe Ducharme is the associate producer. They're going to show us how the American Revolution wasn't just fought on land... but at sea, too.

02:40 By Tom Bramwell

The gameplay footage opens on a tall ship and a chap looking through an eyeglass at the coastline. Apparently there's a dynamic weather system. The ship starts cutting through the glassy water hugging the coast line.

02:41 By Tom Bramwell

As Connor, you're the captain of the vessel and have full control of navigation and cannons, says Hutchinson. Ooh, there's another ship coming out of a nearby bay. FIIIIRE.

02:41 By Tom Bramwell

It's launching broadsides at Connor's boat. Ooh, there are two of them. Lots of exchanges of cannonfire. Connor's ship takes out one of its enemies. The weather's changing; looks like they're heading into a storm and giant ocean swells.

02:42 By Tom Bramwell

It's getting darker and darker as ships close in on all sides. The music's swelling with the ocean.

02:43 By Tom Bramwell

The rain and spray is lashing the ship and the decks are slick. Lightning cracks and cannons flare, casting all sorts of sexy shadows. Everyone's shouting. It's a bit like being in the Microsoft conference, actually.

02:43 By Tom Bramwell

RIGGING. I forgot to mention rigging. There is some.

02:44 By Robert Purchese

And I'm back after a laptop substitution. The Assassin's Creed 3 sea battle looked fantastic on the big screen. Very atmospheric. The crowd rightly cheers.

02:44 By Tom Bramwell

Connor brings his ship alongside another one and the action switches to a brief in-engine cut-scenes of swords being distributed and stuff. Then Connor leaps through the air with his tomahawk drawn and the trailer ends.

02:44 By Robert Purchese

Assassin's Creed 3 will launch day one with a new PS3 hardware bundle. There will be exclusive DLC, apparently. I hope there are some pre-order bonuses, too - a different one for every shop.

02:45 By Robert Purchese

The Ubisoft partnerships continue. Now we're seeing Far Cry 3, which looked very bloody and brutal at Ubisoft's conference earlier. For the first time in franchise history, Far Cry 3 will have four-player co-op!

02:46 By Oli Welsh

Throat stab!

02:46 By Robert Purchese

We're seeing this demonstrated on screen. Stabbing, shooting, flame throwering. It's coordinated slaughter. I hope they have insect repellent on.

02:47 By Robert Purchese

They're chatting away to each other like an amateur SWAT team. One player falls, and a Revive icon hovers above him. He's up. Another throat stab.

02:48 By Robert Purchese

They're escorting a molotov guy, probably carrying some explosive bits and bobs. And yes, boom, the bridge blows up, as planned. They've done very well, they'll be pleased. Clapping, demo over.

02:49 By Tom Bramwell

True that.

digitalash says:

No-one talks this professionally in co-op, it's more like 'shitshitshit there's a dude near the little hut thing.'

02:49 By Robert Purchese

There's a map editor in Far Cry 3 as well as single-player, competitive multiplayer and co-op. Sounds like a big game.

02:49 By Robert Purchese

You'll get free exclusive DLC for Far Cry 3 on PS3, says Tretton.

02:49 By Robert Purchese

Ah hah. PlayStation Move. Why haven't we got a Lightsaber game yet, Jack? Tell us that. TELL US THAT.

02:51 By Robert Purchese

And on comes Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. He's got a high voice.

02:51 By Robert Purchese

Sony's been hard at work on a new experience that, he thinks you'll agree, is truly innovative. Uh oh, he said families.

02:52 By Robert Purchese

This could be magical like Harry Potter.

02:52 By Robert Purchese

There's a boy on screen talking about a book coming to life. An EyePet-like platform that comes to life? It's called Wonderbook.

02:54 By Robert Purchese

Wonderbook puts a physical book in your hands, says House. The Eye augments your reality, as with EyePet. Traditional learning experiences can be augmented. Sony's working with some of the world's best authors to bring these experiences to life. Moonbot Studios is making something for Wonderbook. Their new IP is called Diggs Nightcrawler, a noire detective affair.

02:55 By Robert Purchese

Oh, Sony's been working with a very popular author. It's JK Rowling! What a surprise! Her book, Book of Spells, will be the first title for Wonderbook. It's also the first product in a partnership with Pottermore, the online Potter network thing.

02:55 By Robert Purchese

In Book of Spells you can use Move to cast spells and learn about them. It's like being at Hogwarts, says House. We're seeing a trailer. Very Potter-esque music is tinkling along.

02:57 By Robert Purchese

Welcome to the reinvention of the storybook, the man on stage tells us. I didn't catch his name. Open the book of spells to read new writing from JK Rowling. Oh, the book has a conundrum, a set of poems that unlock at the end of each chapter. We're seeing it in action now. The Move controller is a wand, and by waving it over the book, magical things happen.

02:58 By Tom Bramwell

(For Bertie's benefit, the man on the stage is Dave Ranyard, who used to be game director on SingStar after Paulina Bozek left. Lovely man, Ranyard!)

02:58 By Robert Purchese

Let's take a look at this dragon in the bottom corner. Yes, lets. Oh, there's a warning on the page from a fellow Hogwarts student. Let's see why. Is it because dragons aren't friendly I wonder. The dragon is moving on the page. It's very painterly. The book has been charred. The man demonstrating is rubbing the page clean.

02:58 By Robert Purchese

Thank you, Tom!

02:59 By Oli Welsh

Every wizard needs a wand. And every cowboy sings a sad, sad song.

02:59 By Robert Purchese

Now the book has become a puppet show. There are lots of stories that draw from the world of Harry Potter. If this is exclusive writing by JK Rowling, this game could be a massive, massive deal for Sony.

03:00 By Robert Purchese

Even though it looks a bit dreary. Something's gone wrong, it's not responding. Ranyard makes a joke about it being a live demo. Finally the lady opens the door. Clapping. I wonder if children playing this game will have the same patience.

03:01 By Robert Purchese

You're losing us, Ranyard - we get the idea.

03:02 By Robert Purchese

Even Ranyard looks a bit nonplussed, hands in pocket. This is very drawn out.

03:03 By Robert Purchese

He's still going! I wonder if this long announcement was a condition of the deal with Rowling.

03:04 By Robert Purchese

Andrew House is back on stage. A testimonial from JK Rowling is on screen. There are no elipses in it!

03:04 By Tom Bramwell

Wonderbook: Book of Spells is due out "fall 2012" according to the card at the end of the demo.

03:06 By Robert Purchese

The PlayStation experience is coming to Android phones and tablets, House says, via PlayStation Suite. In April, Suite was opened in beta to the development community. Look out for PlayStation Certified devices to play all of this on. He's announcing that HTC will be the first non-Sony partner "with which we'll share our expertise".

03:07 By Robert Purchese

PlayStation Suite is going to be renamed. But WHY? Oh, it's PlayStation Mobile now. That's much more evocative and sexy.

03:07 By Robert Purchese

One more thing. PlayStation is thinking of the future. Is this the Gaikai announcement?

03:08 By Robert Purchese

Oh, he's off. Jack Tretton's back. Here's God of War: Ascension.

03:10 By Robert Purchese

Blood! Yes! Kratos is facing off against some horned creatures that look a bit like walking goats. Slash, slash, splat, splat - Kratos is getting the best of them. He yanks off a head by the horns. He swings another, holding the beast by its hooves.

03:11 By Robert Purchese

Kratos' twin blades are whirling around, he's juggling a bigger creature, pasting it now. But it's resilient, a mini-boss. And now the QTE execution.

03:12 By Robert Purchese

Uh oh, what's that in the sea? Could it be a Kraken? Kratos is using some green magic to rebuild a platform. Err? That's odd magic.

03:12 By Tom Bramwell

WHY IS KRATOS A JEDI

03:14 By Robert Purchese

More glorious violence. Kratos is now battling the Kraken creature in QTE fashion. Oh, here comes a big foe with a burning helmet on. It's got a massive, glowing hammer. Bash bash bash. Press square. Execution.

03:15 By Robert Purchese

Up and up Kratos climbs. Ha! Here's the elephant man! He's very beefy and Kratos is having to get even angrier to fight him. Another mini-boss showdown.

03:16 By Robert Purchese

Kratos inevitably gets the better of the elephant man and stabs it repeatedly in the back of the skull and then pulls its brain out. Charming! Now, the Kraken thingy. Kratos dives off the platform, heading for the submerged creature's face. And the demo's over. Release date: 12th March 2013.

HurbleBurble says:

So they've had to start raping Indian mythology for things to kill now too?

03:17 By Robert Purchese

Another trailer. But the screen is blank. Animal noises. Tokyo Jungle? No, The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's next.

03:18 By Robert Purchese

Is that Ellen Page? Oh no, wait, she looks completely different.

03:19 By Robert Purchese

The two Last of Us protagonists, man and girl, are exploring the jungle-fied city. The Naughty Dog style is very apparent. The Uncharted climbing and presentation style shine through.

03:19 By Tom Bramwell

The bloke's pottering run is very Nathan Drake.

03:20 By Robert Purchese

The hud even looks like Uncharted's. The animation is very similar, as Tom pointed out.

03:22 By Robert Purchese

An enemy is slowly suffocated. Adult language! There's a melee section - this man can fight like Drake. He takes the man as a human shield and the enemy is asking him to take it easy. He doesn't, and brutally smashes him in the head. The enemies are talking all the time. The girl butts in, then the man slams him into the wall. It's very graphic.

03:24 By Robert Purchese

More fighting. And we end with a very graphic look at a man being shot in the face with a shotgun. The crowd here are very pleased with the violence on show.

03:25 By Tom Bramwell

At one point the bloke was scavenging, picking up objects, and it looked like he put together a Molotov cocktail with inventory objects. Then he set fire to someone with it. Swoosh.

03:25 By Tom Bramwell

The mix of melee combat, items and cover shooting looks like a different blend to Uncharted. The crowd certainly appreciated it.

03:25 By Robert Purchese

Tretton makes a joke about the game looking "mind blowing". He's winding down now, wrapping up. He wants us to keep pushing Sony. OK, Jack. "The best is yet to come," he says, and turns and walks away.

03:25 By Robert Purchese

And with that we're off. Thank you very much for joining us tonight, Eurogamer readers!

03:26 By Tom Bramwell

Yep, thanks everyone! We'll be back live tomorrow (wait, today!) at 5pm UK time for Nintendo's conference.
