Resident Evil 5: Gold Ed. coming to PSN

Out next week at a budget price.

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition arrives is up for download on PlayStation Network from 4th October, Capcom has announced.

For the uninitiated, it includes the original game, the Lost In Nightmares and Desperate Escape DLC, two costume packs and The Mercenaries Reunion mode, all for your local equivalent of $24.99.

The most recent entry in Capcom's long-running zombie franchise won a 7/10 from Eurogamer back in March in 2009. See Kristan Reed's Resident Evil 5 review for more details.

Plenty for Resi fans to be getting on with right now. Resi 4 HD hit last week and Code Veronica X follows on tomorrow.

Although be advised, they insist you play through most of the main RE5 game in order to 'unlock' the DLC parts. I found this out the hard way after buying this on disk, after Capcom decided not to release the DLC on PC....... I've still not gotten around to finishing it to play the DLC as I find the main game so much like hard work.

    I quite liked re5.

The move implementation is quite good too, especially if you've played re4 on Wii. Although I'd suggest using standard controls as I died more times than I should have towards the end thanks to no strafing..

The game has been seen for a tenner most places and can be picked up for cheaper than that on eBay if you look around. Plus you can sell it on once you're done.

RE5 would probably have earned more praise if it didn't have "Resident Evil" in the title. Unfortunately it did and it just wasn't a good RE game in any way, shape or form, especially after the sublime RE4. I'm sorry, but RE4 is still a stunning game, despite what some of the "cool kids" like to say. I've read comments like "it's good but not all that" and "overrated" thrown about. Whilst you're all entitled to your opinion, suggesting that RE4 wasn't a major influence on all third person action games today, aswell as being a fantastic game in general is pure rubbish. There's a reason why there was such a massive backlash from the fans after RE5's release. For a game that was 5 years in the making it really did not deliver.

Back on topic, whilst this deal can still be found at half the price in shops, it still pisses on the totally fucked up prices of the HD re-issues. There's been rumours floating about that Capcom are working on a Devil May Cry HD collection, but after this shambolic package I'm really not optimistic at all. Capcom can go and do one along with Square Enix. Konami is the only remaining "big" Japanese developer to not have completely pissed me off with their tactics. Here's hoping it stays that way.

Is the DLC actually on the (Blu-Ray) disc or is it a redeemable code?
  • TFM_Excalibur #7 8 months ago

    $24.99?

    That'll be £23.99 then...
  • danathjo #8 8 months ago

    @Acrid
    it's all on the disc

This is EUROgamer for goodness' sake! Saying it'll be priced at "your local equivalent" to the USD price just doesn't cut it, as we all know none of the online outlets follow any sensible kind of currency exchange rate.

Please do the research required to actually provide a story that's useful and meaningful to the majority of your readership!

If it comes out at a decent price I may pick this up. Been meaning to get a copy of RE5 again for a while and the idea of having it directly on my HDD along with RE1, 4 and CV (and hopefully 2 and 3 when they pull their finger out!) is certainly appealing

Say what you like about Resi 5,and I know it's maybe not the best, but it really is very good with Move, especially in split screen co-op.Only shame is the fire button is the move button and not the trigger, but it's still great, but it means if you want to use the Sharpshooter gun,you can't use the trigger on the gun,but the Move button underneath, don't feel right. But still good with a Move and Navi/Dualshock combo.Yeah the extra content is on the disc too.Shame Resi 4 didn't have Move compatability. At that price you'd of thought they'd of implemented it.

I think i've slightly given up on Res Evil games. They keep bringing out the same game, the games are fun, but 5 to me was a let down, I think they need to do something different to keep the series fresh

They Fuck us by removing Backwards Compatability, then they Fuck us again by re-selling our own, very old games back to us under the guise of HD.

    Who'da funked it?

"They Fuck us by removing Backwards Compatability, then they Fuck us again by re-selling our own, very old games back to us under the guise of HD."

I think most of us would appreciate some HD versions of some good old ps2 games. The trouble is, the quality of that 'HD' version has been cheaped out on too many times already.

Pretty sure this can be had for less than a tenner on disc by now anyway.
