Blizzard has announced in a forum post that it's opening up paid character transfers from Normal (player-versus-environment) to Player-versus-Player servers in World of Warcraft.

It's a controversial move, since the company originally said it would be unfair to players who had levelled up their characters in the tougher environment of PVP servers to allow those who'd had an easier time of it to waltz in at maximum level.

"Because World of Warcraft has matured significantly since the inception of Paid Character Transfers, we don't feel that PvE-to-PvP transfers will have the negative impact on the game that we initially wanted to avoid when we started the service in 2006," said Blizzard in the FAQ.

"This change will provide more mobility and freedom for players to experience the game with friends or play in the type of environment they're looking for."

Nonetheless, many players are unhappy about this move, claiming that it's not a level playing field, and that it will kill off world PVP on most servers, as players choose to level quickly in a safe environment before paying to bring their characters across.

Transfers cost GBP 15 or EUR 20, if you fancy making the move.
