The Witcher 3 - Family Matters: Talisman location, exploring Ciri's Room, pellar's hut location and Family Matters remaining leads explained

Our complete guide to finishing the Family Matters quest in The Witcher, from completing the investigation to tracking down the pellar.

Family Matters continues to Bloody Baron questline in The Witcher 3.

It involves a few steps - from finding the Talisman location to exploring Ciri's Room, and eventually, the Pellar's Hut location.

There's also the case of having to investigate all remaining leads in Family Matters - which though might come later, is something we can help solve on this page.

On this page:

Where to find the Talisman in Family Matters

Now that you and the Bloody Baron have made it upstairs, you'll need to search some rooms to move to the next part of the story.

Go to the room ahead of you first, once inside use your Witcher Senses to have a look around. There are lots of things to loot, so fill your pockets before investigating the empty space on the right-hand wall.

Next up is the painting near the back of the room on the right-hand side. Investigating this will lead you to examine the furniture on the other side of that small wall, and the story will become a bit clearer.

Now you have to go and take a look at the candlestick on the table near the front of the room. You'll then have to follow a scent trail using your Witcher Senses.

You can check out Tamara's room if you'd like to grab a bit more loot and some more backstory too. There's even a key in the wardrobe to your left as you enter the room.

Follow the scent trail down the stairs and grab the Talisman halfway down; this is the main quest item you need to continue on. You can then continue following the scent trail if you like, it'll lead to some more loot downstairs in the form of some barrels. You'll also find a locked door to use the key on and some more items to investigate and loot inside.

Talk to the baron about what you have found

Now it's time to head back to the Baron and talk to him about what you've found. Navigate through the dialogue trees - being as judgemental or as accepting as you'd like - and you'll be sent off on a quest to find the Pellar's Hut.

Family Matters Secondary Quest: Ciri's Room

It makes sense to do this before you head off to see the Pellar. Track the quest from your menu and then head over to the room in question.

Examine the room where Ciri stayed using your Witcher Senses

Using your Witcher Senses, you'll see that there are a few things inside that are of note; the clothes on the ground, a book on the table, and even a toy on the ground.

Read the book entitled 'The Natural Obscurity of Curses' from Ciri's room

First of all, have a read of the book, which is called 'The Natural Obscurity of Curses'. It will trigger some dialogue and give a little bit more information about both her and her host.

Go to the kitchen and talk to Gretka

Then, head out across the hallway and go into the room opposite. You'll find Gretka there and can chat to her and eventually give her the toy back to end the quest.

How to find the Pellar location in Family Matters

Make your way out of the Baron's castle by heading to the middle level and going east. You'll be able to turn right halfway along the corridor and leave the building. There are a few things outside that are worth paying attention to.

First of all, make sure to loot any herbs you can find in the garden just to your left as you exit. Then, head over to the blacksmith and chat to them about finding a master armourer, it will open up a quest for you to do later on.

It's also worth making sure you're equipment has been fully repaired, it's a good habit to get into given how much combat you can stumble into.

Find the pellar's hut

Once you're done, leave the area and follow the road through the ground and across the wooden bridge. You can now call Roach to help you travel faster. Of course, if you've visited somewhere closer to the quest marker, you could also fast travel from the marker at the end of the bridge - otherwise, head northwest toward your objective.

You'll find the Pellar in a spot of bother thanks to some ne'er-do-wells who are harassing him. Either convince them to leave with your level 2 Delusion skill or persuade them to leave by introducing them to the pointy end of your sword. Once you've dealt with them, knock on the door to get his attention.

Talk to the pellar

You'll have a somewhat perplexing conversation with him about the Talisman you found earlier and can even ask after the Baron's family. Naturally, nothing is free in The Witcher 3, so he wants your help before he'll do anything for you. That means it's time to go and fetch his goat, Princess, for him.
