The Witcher 2 is heading to consoles

Don't expect it "too soon", says developer.

CD Projekt has revealed plans for a console version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, no doubt hoping to realise what canned project The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf could not.

"Although PC is a certain choice we made regarding platforms for The Witcher 2, we also want to release the console version," senior producer Tomasz Gop told GRY-OnLine (via Voodoo Extreme)

The Witcher 2 was made official after an internal presentation video leaked onto the internet earlier this month. A date, said Gop, will be announced when a publisher is revealed.

"However, please do not expect the game too soon," he added. "The Witcher 2 is still deeply in the development stage and as it is huge and complex, there are still many, many hours of work in front of us."

The demonstration video highlights many overhauled areas for the mature RPG sequel: graphics, combat, magical powers and dialogue. The old Aurora engine has been ditched and a "brand new" core built that - naturally - means everything will be "much better".

But Gop said the video missed the "main aspect of the game", which is the story. He promised an "even more exciting and captivating" tale, and assured us the voice-overs used during the clip were placeholder and in-house, and that professional actors native to their appropriate regions will be used for the real thing.
