Square Enix hints at FFXIII-2

Wants "story where Lightning ends up happy".

Square Enix "wants" to do "something" that will allow players to "further understand" the Final Fantasy XIII story – and it could be a sequel.

In an interview with the wonderfully-titled Final Fantasy XIII Ultimania Omega, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase said he wants to pass along the Fabula Nova Crystalis mythology and show things that won't make it into the other games in the Crystalis collection: Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Versus XIII.

Could this be a Final Fantasy XIII-2? asked the interviewer (as translated by Andriasang). Kitase said he wasn't sure. It all depends, apparently, on "fan reaction". Well fans, how do you react?

Director Motomu Toriyama added: "I'd like to at some point make a story where Lightning ends up happy." Plot thickens.

Final Fantasy XIII is, of course, devoid of downloadable content. In the same interview the game's creators said next time DLC will be a "priority".

And when will we see the next game from the Final Fantasy XIII team? According to Kitase, the staff follows a company policy of making games at a pace of one title every two years.

The divisive Final Fantasy XIII managed an 8/10 in Eurogamer's March review.

An Ultimate Hits International edition will bring Final Fantasy XIII to Japanese 360s for the first time.
