Sony announces Dec 2020 release date for the Uncharted movie

Sony has announced a release date for the Uncharted movie: 18th December 2020.

The Uncharted movie stars Tom Holland of Spider-Man fame as Nathan Drake, and is directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Cloverfield Lane).

The story won't follow the plot of the Naughty Dog-developed games, rather it will be a prequel depicting a younger Drake, who learns the tricks of the treasure-hunting trade from his mentor, Sully.

At least, that was the script in January 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest draft of the screenplay is from Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker, so things may have changed slightly.

What's clear, though, is Sony is confident enough the Uncharted movie will actually get made that it's announced a release date, which is quite something after what can only be described as a movie development hell. The Uncharted film has been in the works for years, with various directors and actors attached to it. At one point Mark Wahlberg was going to play Nathan Drake in a version directed by David O. Russell.

So, a year-and-a-half to wait before Nathan Drake finally hits the big screen. While we twiddle our thumbs, we always have this:
