PS3 movie download service to begin in US this summer

Japan and Europe to follow later.

Sony has announced it will launch the PS3 movie download service this summer - but only in the US.

According to the Associated Press, the service "will be offered in Japan and Europe at later dates". Further details will be revealed "next month" - presumably at Sony's E3 conference, which takes place on 15th July.

SCE boss Kaz Hirai said there are plans to improve network services and cut costs to improve the profitability of Sony's game division. "Please expect more from our evolving PlayStation business," he told journalists.
