Professor Layton 7 and Fantasy Life 2 announced for smartphones

Due this summer in Japan.

Professor Layton and Fantasy Life publisher Level-5 has revealed that the next entry in each of these series will be released as smartphone titles.

As reported by Siliconera, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino announced the upcoming Professor Layton title, currently just called Layton 7, at its Level-5 Vision 2015 event in Japan.

A screenshot teased some card-related gameplay - ostensibly part of a puzzle - wherein players will have to solve a riddle to determine which character is a vampire. It's unclear if this is part of the overall plot, or simply a one-off brainteaser.

Layton 7 is due in Japan this summer on iPhone and Android devices. A 3DS version was originally supposed to be released, but no mention of it was made, so it's unclear if that's still happening.

No western release has yet been announced.

Siliconera also noted the reveal of Fantasy Life 2: Two Moons And The Village of God, which is also due this summer in Japan on iPhone and Android devices.

The sequel will feature 12 lives and a new "Village" feature in which you collect townsfolk. Aesthetically it looks similar to the last Fantasy Life, but there will be a bigger focus on city-building this time as you'll have a larger playing field to erect your municipality. Level-5 teased some returning characters as well.

Like Layton 7, there's no word on whether this will reach European shores, though given Level-5's history of releasing its hits over here, it seems likely this will eventually get localised.
