Patrice Desilets' ape evolution game Ancestors will be out in 2019

Ooh ooh ooh.

Ape evolution action-adventure game Ancestors: A Humankind Odyssey will be released in 2019.

This is the game former Assassin's Creed creative director Patrice Desilets has been making with his 30-person studio Panache Digital in Canada for the past few years.

Desilets unveiled fresh footage of Ancestors during The Game Awards tonight, showing four clips from different evolutionary periods, each millions of years apart.

The first clip showed an ape in a terrifying age of deadly - and hungry - giant snakes and crocs, 8 million years ago; then we jumped forward four million years to an ape with a baby on its back, hunting by the water. Time leapt forward again until we were in a savannah and our ape was facing off against a big cat.

It's this kind of evolutionary timeline we'll progress through, leaping from one significant era to the next - from our ancestors to our present, if you like, one affecting the other.

I saw a collection of clips from Ancestors back at the Reboot conference earlier this year, which Desilets is a regular at.

I'm not crystal clear on which platforms Ancestors will be released on. I'm fairly sure it's multi-platform (PC and console) but I'll double-check.
