Night Trap is getting a 25th anniversary re-release for PS4 and Xbox One

PS4 version gets a physical edition.

Dubious cult-classic Sega CD live-action affair Night Trap is getting a 25th anniversary re-release on PS4 and Xbox One.

Developed by Screaming Villains, this restoration of an old classic is slated for a spring release with a physical version available for PS4.

The game puts players in the role of a paranormal investigations agent monitoring a booby-trapped suburban house where teenage girls have a habit of disappearing. It turns out vampires are stalking the abode and you must activate the right traps at the right times to ward off these nocturnal threats.

Night Trap's critical reception was mixed at launch, though it went on to be included in several prominent publications' worst games of all-time lists. Chances are it's aged well, however, given that its core audience is now old enough to enjoy it paired with an adult beverage.

Night Trap's original developers proposed an HD remake on Kickstarter back in 2014, but it regrettably only raised 12 per cent of its 330k goal. But where there's a will there's a way and no amount of poor crowdfunding or dismal critical reception could keep Night Trap down. Like the 80s horrors it desperately tried to emulate, Night Trap just keeps coming back.

You can download Night Trap's very 80s theme song for free from Screaming Villains' official site.
