Silent Hill movie details

It'll star Sean Bean and the lady out of Pitch Black, and there are some location shots to have a peek at too.

As shooting begins on the movie version of Silent Hill, Hollywood rag Variety has revealed more details of the cast list.

The film will star Radha Mitchell - whose previous credits include Pitch Black and two episodes of Neighbours - as Rose, a woman trying to find out the truth behind her daughter's mysterious disappearance. Sean "Boromir" Bean [surely Sean "Sharpe" Bean? -Ed] will play her husband.

Other cast members include Deborah Kara Unger (Crash, The Game) and Kim Coates (Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbour). The movie is helmed by Christopher Gans, director of cult French horror Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Roger Avary - director of Killing Zoe and The Rules of Attraction and co-writer of Pulp Fiction, for which he won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar with Quention Tarantino - has done the script.

And finally, the film is being produced by Samuel Hadida, who's also behind the Resident Evil movies and is currently working on a big screen adaptation of Onimusha.

But according to Ain't It Cool News, Avary and Gans are promising to stay true to the original game, with the emphasis on atmospheric tension rather than Resi Evil-style gun-running.

The film is being shot in a spooky little Canadian town that they reckon is about as close as you can get to the real, or rather the virtual, thing - judge for yourself by checking out some location shots here. Silent Hill is due for release next year.
