NBA Street goes online

PS2 and Xbox owners can look forward to online play, although Cube owners will have to make do with whatever else is new.

The inevitable third title in the NBA Street series will go online on both PS2 and Xbox, published Electronic Arts has announced. NBA Street V3 is currently in development at EA Canada and due out under the "BIG" label in early 2005. It's also due out on GameCube in the same timeframe, albeit without online support.

Fans of the series (and we count ourselves amongst those, actually) will be pleased to hear that V3 retains much of what they enjoyed in the first two - three-on-three basketball with various professional players on authentic street courts, using not-so-authentic (in fact largely physics-defying) special dunks and moves.

We're expecting another hip hop flavoured outing, too, but we're more excited about the idea of creating courts and patenting our own moves, as well as customising our own ballers as we have done in the past. Oh, and we're sure we'll like the new locations too, which include Rucker Park in Harlem, Venice Beach, and some place called The Cage from the West Village of New York. (See how we worked those in? Textbook.)

Expect to hear (and perhaps see) more about NBA Street V3 in the coming months.
