Potter goes next-gen

Next game due out in July.

Electronic Arts has revealed that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released opposite the film version next July, and will be the first instalment in the series to appear on next-gen consoles.

Announcing the game for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS, GBA and PC, the publisher said it would allow players to explore the locations used in the film and tackle scenarios in the roles of various characters - including Potter himself, obviously, but also Dumbledore and Sirius Black.

EA also released some screenshots of its UK Studio's work-in-progress.

Expect more details on the game including, perhaps, whether it makes use of the Wii-mote as a sort of makeshift wand, as Potter fever once again intensifies in the run-up to next year's film. And indeed book, since Rowling's threatening to kick that out within the next 12 months too.
