US Gizmondo sat-nav pricing

Buy the whole country for $249.

Our American friends can finally pop to the shops and pick up a Gizmondo this weekend, as the system goes on sale at the not-at-all exorbitant price of $229 on October 22nd.

Gizmasters Tiger Telematics popped up in our inboxes this week to remind us of this and also let us know about pricing for the Gizmondo Navigator 2006 satellite navigation software. There are four regional packages - East Coast, Mid-West, West Coast and South West - which retail for $169 each, and you can buy the entire USA for $249. Times must be hard.

You can also buy the complete system bundle for "an amazing $399", which is certainly that, particularly given that that's just the Smart-ADDs version, which justifies its low low price by forcing you to watch adverts some of the time.

The equivalent UK pricing for a Gizmondo with Smart-ADDs is £129.99, with a proper version bereft of intrusive marketing going for £229.99. You can also pay an extra 70 quid for our version of the Gizmondo Navigator software. OR, you could just buy all the roadmaps in the UK, which probably costs less.

For more information on what Gizmondo's up to, take a stroll down to the Regent Street store - they'll be pleased to see you, and you can sit in their odd chairs and play SSX and stuff.

For those who aren't keeping track, Gizmondo's planning to release a widescreen version of its handheld in 2006.
